I did what PoleDork suggested for one wall (although I didn’t take the frames off) and this may not work for you, but my pole is in my bedroom right in front of out closet. We have sliding doors on it, and we had planned on replacing them when we moved in. We ended up buying mirrored closet doors https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I don’t need a full-length mirror now, it makes the room look A LOT bigger, and I can see myself on the pole (only from a certain side, the pole can’t be centered right in front of them without me kicking something).
Just an idea, but if you’re looking for super cheap, go with the full-length cheapo mirrors and take off the frames.

That’s a funny story! And I’m surprised the moral of your story isn’t that you should figure out how to get out of a move before you try it… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
If you can do a gemini, try switching to a gemini and getting down like you normally would from an invert. You could also just wrap your free leg around the other side of the pole and slide down and land on your back as usual. I wouldn’t recommend just letting go and hoping you land on your free foot (lemme guess: that’s what you did https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif) Maybe even grab the pole with both hands and pull yourself upright a bit then unhook your leg.
I’m glad you didn’t seriously hurt yourself… or the mirror.

Hmmm that sounds like it would be less messy, but like I said, it has to get in between the threads on the joints. So if enough came out that it would kinda drip down between the threads as you "wrote" with it, I think that would be great!
And depending on how much this stuff costs, maybe try getting both kinds??? WD-40 has several uses around the house so you could find a use for the one you found you don’t like. It’s the best fix for a squeaky door, sliding doors that stick, etc. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hmmm it would probably depend on your preference. The can I have has both a spray (like a mist) and a straw-type thing that jets it out. I found I like the spray better, easier to control. Keep in mind you’re applying this to the threads on the joints to the pole, so it needs to get in between the threads so wiping it on may not be as effective (at least this didn’t work for me, anyway). A more direct spray, like the straw-thing, just seems to make more of a mess because it’s more concentrated and it drips everywhere. The mist-like spray still makes a mess but more of it gets where you want it and less drip. Does that make sense? Either way you’re going to end up cleaning the whole pole with soap and water when you’re done https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
When you say "pen" is it like a straw thing like I’m describing or like a thing you "write" the WD-40 onto the object with??? Just wondering…

oooo that’s a lot to get all at once! Congrats, I’m gonna go find that video now! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I posted this exact same question under Dance Poles when I first came to this site before I got my spinning pole. Now I can answer it, too!
I have to say static by far. It’s too easy to get going to fast when you’re spinning. You work so hard to be able to get a lot of momentum on static then you have to learn the opposite when you go to spinning. I’ve only done one video on spinning and it took a lot of control. I also get dizzy really easily…
I can see why people like it, though. I just personally don’t.

I laughed so hard when I saw that only because I posted a link to the exact same video not too long ago under pics and vids! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

OOooo I did like that! Hmmm… let me think about this…
Felix’s video was impressive because of her flexibility and the speed of the series of moves at the 2 minute mark, my favorite spot. She also seems to have a strength advantage (however, the muscles on her are to the point where I don’t think they’re attractive anymore… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif ). She due to her flexibility she pulled off some moves that I’ve personally never seen; the ones on the spinning pole. She also has great timing with the music; notice her jade dismount went perfectly with the music and that she knew exactly how far off the floor she would be after all those moves going down the pole (however the audio was obviously edited… all the cheering wasn’t in it).
Cons: Those fast moves were all Geminis, Scorpios, and inverted thigh holds (maybe a butterfly, I don’t remember at the moment). Those are all moves I can do and I’m a beginner! She also didn’t have a very varied routine – she was on the pole 95% of the time: pretty much all inverts. No spins, a dash of floorwork, but that was pretty much it.
Jenyne’s was rather opposite. She had a wider range of moves that she performed – spins, inverts, etc. She also included props (umbrella and rain coat) which always adds interest. I love that she did the inverted body wave!!! I have to go back to the variety thing: she did moves that are kinda considered the staple moves but at the same time added the shocker ones in there.
And it’s hard for me to add many more positive things because the video was edited!!! Which brings me to cons: her more impressive moves weren’t as impressive as Felix’s (but still impressive!) Not as many shock-factor moves in there. Included more standard moves.
But overall I can’t pick a favorite… Felix’s had more impressive moves but I wasn’t too fond of the routine overall. Jenyne’s was more of a routine (I think… darn edited-ness!) and had more variety but didn’t have as impressive moves. Not to mention Jenyne’s was easier on the ears… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Oh wow thanks guys (or girls, rather).

Our lovely SaschaPoles has a few videos that she did of lapdance moves, floorwork included! She also does one with props that may come in handy, too. You should look them up! (they’re posted here, not YouTube) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Just putting it out there that I have MySpace and Facebook and I refuse to get any other sort of newtworking accounts. They all say the same thing, I post the same pictures, I hate keeping them all updated and 95% of the people I know are on both. It’s for the very few people that only have one or the other that I keep both https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif My facebook was actually a recent re-activation.
I have a few people from here as friends on them, and PM me if you’re looking for an add. However, I would rather I actually knew you before you try adding me. As in, if you made an account here 2 seconds ago please don’t be asking me for a friend add on there yet. Adding me on Studio Veena is fine, but my real information is on these other sites…
Sorry to be a thread-crasher and all but I didn’t want to make a new thread just to say that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_silent.gif

Yes, Joel, she really did go to Cali… I have Sascha on Facebook… she got lots of harassing messages from me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif I sent Veena one or two, also… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I haven’t seen any of the other videos https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif Then again I haven’t looked either
Anyone want to post links to the others??? I’d love to see them and maybe I’ll agree with you 2 ladies, too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

SissyBuns – I started with an Electra-pole. It’s still under my bed… they wouldn’t take it back because I didn’t have the box anymore. I actually made a video called "Why Peekaboo sucks", too. – I posted it here if you wanted to see it. I got an x-pole after a few weeks of the torture.
But I’m glad you realized how bad it was before you started really doing stuff on it. You might’ve gotten hurt!
I’m considering making a video comparing my x-pole to my old electra-pole and posting it on YouTube. What do you guys think??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Thanx. I’m going to call x-pole but how does that banging technique work? Anyone know? I might as well try that too.
She’s referring to the "shock" method in Veena’s instructions. I actually believe that Veena directly quoted most if not all of that from the x-pole instruction manual (if not, she worded it very well!)
It’s basically just taking a hammer and instead of pushing or pulling on the release rods, tap them with a hammer in the direction you want to go. Lay it all on the floor with one of the rods against the floor or better yet, laying on a book. The rod that’s sticking up in the air – cover it with a towel or something so you don’t ding the rods. Then tap with a hammer in the direction you want it to turn. Don’t really hit it because it’s the shock, not the amount of force, that releases the pole. I believe there’s a picture diagram on the very back cover of the manual…

1) How long do you practice?
About an hour and a half or so2) How often do you practice?
4-5 days a week3) freestyle or plan?
Pretty much freestyle, I usually have a few moves in mind I want to work on or try4) Stretching?
I’m horrible… I usually don’t… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif Maybe a little afterwards, and usually only the parts of my body I was really working on (my back has been bothering me so I’ve been stretching that)5) strength training and conditioning?
Nope, not really! Although I try to do moves that will help build strength towards other ones, like I’ve been doing the extended butterfly to try and work towards being able to do cartwheel mounts, straight edge, etc. I may do a few leg lifts, but not much else.6) self teaching or classes?
Entirely self-taught https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -

Nice, Glitter! I just put up a video of a girl on YouTube doing that not too long ago under pics and vids… That’s awesome! Take lots of pictures for us! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes to both, actually. Gone through like 5 sets of batteries in the past week and I’ve been uploading the pics/videos after each I’m I use it and erasing the memory card once it’s been uploaded… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif Mine is 2 years old, too… got it when I was preggo for my daughter.
Thanks for the suggestions, though ,Trena, I appreciate it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Good luck with your camera, too!

Just try signing into chat every now and then and see who’s there. One night I just did it for the heck of it and Glitter was in there all by herself! We ended up talking for a little bit and were soon joined by 2 or 3 other people! Random…? Doesn’t happen often but it can. You could always set up chat dates or something like Sascha suggested, too.

Oh I’m sorry Cali… College professors don’t give 2 hoots about their students and it sucks. And I feel so bad for you that you were robbed! I hope you were able to get all your paperwork back…
But like you said, next week… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Just remember life goes on even though sometimes it seems like it won’t or like we don’t want it to go on… you’re strong and I know you’ll be ok! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
