Under the Pole Jams forum, PoleDork added a Pole Pals map that we can add ourselves to so we can see where everyone is from and look to see who’s close to us!
There are only a couple of us on there right now, but let’s all get our butts on there! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Oh, btw, I’m from the Southern Tier of NY – Binghamton, Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, etc. area. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh this was exactly what I was hoping for when this was suggested!
I added myself… and actually used my real town name for the first time. You can’t really type in a region’s name on this type of stuff lol.
Great idea, PoleDork!

Oh nos! I couldn’t imagine trading in my pole for anything but another x-pole…
When you say "vaulted", do you mean like a cathedral ceiling that goes up to a point in the center, or an actual vaulted ceiling meaning it’s just one giant angled ceiling in one direction??? I’ve heard people use both interchangeably so I get confused easily…
I’m not sure if you can do this if you rent… But with either ceiling, do you know someone that is like a contractor, or something like that? (a.k.a. someone that knows what they’re doing?) I’ve heard of people making wedges on the ceiling so it creates a flat surface for the pole. If you had a cathedral ceiling, you could put it dead center on the peak and actually make a triangle-type shape that would be easier to make sturdy compared to a wedge against just one section of the vaulted ceiling (that’s why I asked which it is… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
I know it’s probably not recommended to do this, but as long as you use solid, thick wood to make the wedge (as in, not particle board!), put it spanning over 2 joists in the ceiling, and for the frame on the inside of the wedge, use multiple mini-joists , there’s no reason why it wouldn’t hold solid. Oh, and it would have to be crazy well screwed into the ceiling. Use large, aggressively-threaded screws going into the joists – no dinky finishing nails toenailed into the dry wall. Another thing that might help is if you can get into the attic above where you want to put the pole and reinforce the joists.
Like I said, dunno if you can do that as a renter… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Good luck and maybe some of the other girls would have some ideas for you!

Here are a bunch of things I’ve heard:
-Mighty Grip
-Tite Grip
-Dry hands
-baby powder
-rubbing alcohol (on pole and hands)
-candle wax on poleI’ve tried a few of these. Baby powder sucks for me; my hands continue to sweat and it just makes a clumpy wet mess on my hands and the pole. Dry Hands is great until my hands start sweating again; it doesn’t stop the sweat for me and it makes a film on my hands and comes off on the pole, too. Rubbing alcohol is nice because it leaves your hands feeling more natural-like (because there’s nothing really left on them), but once again, my hands still continue to sweat and it makes a greasy film on the pole. I would recommend the Dry Hands or rubbing alcohol, even though they’re not 100% for me. I’m going to try that candle wax thing next… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
-
Well I’m not sure how much help I’d be; my pole is the only one I’ve ever used. Is your pole chrome and the ones in class titanium??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif If they’re different finishes, they will have different grip. Is the building you take your classes in climate controlled – like do they use a dehumidifier? That kind of stuff has an impact, too.
There are several other threads about how to help with grip – both on hands on stuff to put on the pole. For hands, there are: frequent handwashing with soap, Mighty Grip, Tite Grip, Dry Hands, and rubbing alcohol (those are the common ones). For the pole, rubbing alcohol and candle wax come up a lot. There’s actually a thread started by Neke entitled "Insane rantings of a madman?" asking about the coke question – general consensus being that no one here has really tried it but cola may actually be bad for your pole.
Browse around a bit and you’ll find that this is a frequent topic https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

That’s a very nice offer! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif This is going to sound contradictory, but I have no personal interest in ballet really, but I love the idea of expanding knowledge of dance styles to enhance pole dancing. If you did it, I would probably check it out anyway… lol. I have a great admiration for ballet but I don’t think I could do it myself, that’s all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
However, I will add that more "universal" things that ballet has like stretches, positions, posture, etc. are things I would definitely like to see because it can be easily applied to pole. The moves aren’t what would thrill me. Like I said, no offense, I’m definitely cheering you on because I think it’s a great idea! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

The shoes are cute, too. basic, but cute!
Hehe I’m not a big shoe person. (I don’t like shopping for shoes, I hate trying stuff on, etc. etc.) I just like plain and simple kinda stuff. The way I see it, the only people that are going to be looking at my shoes are shoe-aholics, anyway, so as long as they don’t look stupid, I don’t feel the need to impress anyone with my shoes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif That sounds really mean but I don’t mean it in a mean way; I just have a plain and simple style. Jeans and t-shirt for me when I’m off the pole!
But thanks, everyone, I’ll have to talk my husband into letting me get one pair for my birthday. (which is this week https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I just clicked on the link and it says the video was removed.
I kinda sorta not really wish I had seen it just so I knew what all the fuss was about, but at the same time, I don’t think I would’ve wanted to…
People are stupid. That’s all there is to it.

Here is her dance from a 2008 competition.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1qmIkcebxMKudos to her? win but for such an emotional song I felt her dance was so cold. I don’t want to sound mean or anything but it didn’t feel like a performance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif
Oh boy… great example of an extremely stilted performance… maybe she was nervous??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif Her movements didn’t flow at all, it was like she had to think about every move she made… She didn’t look like she was enjoying herself at all, though… poor thing… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif Her tricks were very good, though!

Thank you, Nikki and Fleur! That clears things up a lot – I thought the pole was supposed to be centered on your body when you used forearm grip so I guess I was mistaken. Good thing to get cleared up before I start screwing up big time!
And the funny thing is, Nikki, I used to do target practice with a rifle and whenever I’m practicing this grip, it never crossed my mind that the grip was similar to holding a gun! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif It is kinda sorta similar…
-
Thanks Nikki! This is an older post – I got it about a week or so after posting this thread, and was actually helping Jungle with his, too. But I really appreciate it! I never went back and posted that I got it because no one had even responded to this at the time, so I didn’t see the point in posting again. Thank you nonetheless! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Foxy I think people haven’t seen it because the forum was kinda busy with Jungles video stuff and my stupid arm. I thought that this was a wonderful post. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Yeah I’m sorry about that other post where I said no one responded… I was rather frazzled because there have been a few topics I’ve started that went unanswered entirely, and this one took a lot of time so it made me kinda mad… I know there are other big things going on in the forums, but I still saw some people did read it so it made me kinda upset that I didn’t even get a quick "hey I read this" from anyone.
So my apologies. I haven’t been feeling myself lately and haven’t even been in the mood to pole for several days, so I’m rather edgy… Plus there’s a lot going on in my personal life, including postponing the amateur night that Sascha and I were supposed to go to at the last minute… So I haven’t been a happy camper https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
But thank you for responding, anyway! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I did this because one of my pet peeves is some people’s dancing could be replaced with literally any other song because their dancing doesn’t match up with it at all, and I know that it isn’t necessarily the fault of the person…
And untamedshrew, I wish I could help with getting your body to do what your mind envisions, however, I have that problem myself! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif All that routine outline I typed out – I haven’t even tried it so I dunno if I could pull it off or not! If you figure it out, let me know!

its a great example of what foxy was describing in her musicality post.
Yay someone read that massively long post! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

That just sucks all the way around… I’ve been seeing your status on Facebook about not dancing, but I didn’t want to pry.
That’s stupid they won’t give you a referral. As a patient it is your right to find out what exactly is wrong with you, and if they can’t tell you themselves, then they need to point you to someone who will. Why do referrals have to be a complicated process like that??? Even if it is just a strain, the fact that you can’t even lift your infant child should be a good sign that there’s something seriously wrong here and needs more attention.
Why can’t we just go see a doctor that we want/feel that we need to see without these stupid processes? I mean, seriously, what is really stopping you from just marching up to the door of the sports medicine doc and saying "I have a problem, I’m certified in , my doctor isn’t telling me shit, and I want to see someone who can tell me what I wanna know." Sheesh, free country my rear-end…
-
Hey! You’re not telling us anything so we can only speculate! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Like the Kelly Kayne video on YouTube? That body wave? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
-
Very emotional Jungle! I’m at a loss for words and I’m only like half-way through the video… I’ll post more when I remember some words in the English language to help me describe this… lol
-
And all of us should fly in to be the people in the background doing the moves with her! LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Kinda like how Sascha recently made a trip all the way out to CA from NY… hmmmm…

There’s a couple threads in here on stage names; one of them was started by me, lol.
You can do a Google search for "stripper names" or "stage names" and get a list of common ones, to get your ideas going. But what it basically comes down to is just finding a name you really like and just using it.
For me, when I put up the thread I had 3 or 4 people say they looked at my pictures and "Foxy" was the first thing that came to mind. I had thought of that, except it’s really really common. My real name is very unique and I take pride in it, so when it came to my stage name I didn’t want to settle for something common, either.
Well, I’m also an anime fan. I love Japanese names. I mulled a few over in my head, like Mizuho, but most of them were hard to pronounce and sounded kinda off the wall. But I liked the name Rei (pronounced "Ray"). So I kinda thought that combining Foxy and Rei would be kinda cool. Got the best of both worlds.
I had to think about it for a couple days; kept running other names through my head but Foxy Rei was just what stuck out the most. I finally decided that was it. I even bugged Veena to change my username on this site to it, too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif
But just make a list of names you like, and as you think them over and sleep on them, cross the ones that you don’t like anymore off the list. The girls on here could always give you suggestions on names, but you know yourself better than the rest of us and know what would fit your personality. Good luck!

Oh I’d love it! Yes Veena you should make lesson DVDs and sell them! Put them in order: warm ups, cool downs, beginner moves, intermediate, advanced, could do separate ones for levels of spins and levels of inverted moves, transitions… oh the possibilities! Sascha awesome idea!
I don’t have the money for the lessons here, but I’d definitely buy the DVDs! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif I would FIND the money somewhere!

My fingers used to hurt, but it went away… never went to see a doctor about it so I couldn’t tell you. Seeing the doctor may be a good idea…
Sascha, as far as cracking knuckles (or any other joints) goes: the "cracking" is releasing air and gas that builds up inside the joints. That itself isn’t bad for you. What’s bad is the hyper-extending of the joints that people do to get the joint to crack. It does damage to the ligaments and tendons and such.
I’m a chronic back and knuckle cracker. I try not to do it because I have to twist really far to get my back to crack, and/or bend backwards while pushing my fists up into the middle of my back (yes I can do that… not as easy as it sounds lol). I used to crack my knuckles to help "limber" them up to play my clarinet back when it was my major in college. Over the years I’ve learned just to bend my back or knuckles just a little bit, and if they don’t crack right away, I leave them alone. Takes a lot of willpower, though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif
So adamseve, I dunno if that’s something you do or if that could contribute to the problem or not. Is it the joints in the fingers itself hurting, or the knuckles???

Cali was there supposed to be a link in there to something??? All we see is this:

Well, Jungle, to quote Amcut in response to the thread about my husband not wanting me to post videos – people can masturbate to just about anything. Heck, some people out there would get off just from seeing your feet because they have a foot fetish, but does that mean that you should always wear socks and shoes in your videos???
Hehe after that long, deep post I just did, now I go and say something like that. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif
OMG i just saw this!!!! You are too hilarious!!!! God I love you!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
