I'm not too familiar with archer and marksman. And archer points to different moves for different people, so that's a confusing one anyway.
To me, marksman is the inverted grip with the inside hand up top, arm stretched, and the outside arm bent, hand right about shoulder height. Use of legs may vary.
To me, bow and arrow is any inverted move with your back to the pole, both legs straight, one straight up, with the foot hooked, the other pointing forward, away from the pole. Many different grips/stances can be used to perform bow and arrow, including elbow, head or handstand, iguana/pencil grip, marksman grip, etc.
I'm staying clear of archer, because of the different definitions that are floating around.
Anyway, that's just my take on it. There are surely many different interpretations of these concepts out there!

I'm still inconsistent on my non-dom side with that. And don't get me started on CAR, lol. Dustbunny, I've taken your approach on that one, hopefully it'll be more comfortable soon! Good luck to everyone!

Me too! I've been looking for the flag button as well, but it's definitely gone.

I just started doing the stretches on http://gymnastics.about.com/od/trainingadvice/ss/centersplit.htm
I really feel my hips today from this one: http://gymnastics.about.com/od/trainingadvice/ss/centersplit_4.htm
And I'm very relieved to have stretches for straddle/center splits that don't put pressure on the inside of my knees!
Onwards and upwards, I say! (or downwards in this case, lol)

Apart from http://wikipole.org I have these two visual inventories bookmarked:
http://polefitnessassociation.com/documents/PFA_Visual_Dictionary.pdf
http://www.poledancecommunity.co.uk/syllabus.html
The top one is the one kat was referring to. The second one lists moves by level, with pics/vids to clarify. Neither have the grips catalogued separately, but at least it's a start.

I'm slowly making progress, but it has been a year (on and off as well). I shelf it for a few weeks from time to time. Just to make sure I don't get obsessed, or too frustrated with myself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif. Having fun is still the #1 priority.

MemberFebruary 23, 2011 at 3:05 am in reply to: Do you have a move that you’ve had to just throw in the towel on?I've been working on the knee hold, on and off, for almost two years! I actually did it for the first time about 9 months ago. But it's still not consistent. Lately it has been more lack of grip than anything else. For me it was key to realize that the hooked feet version wasn't for me. When I started trying it w/o hooking the feet, it came pretty quickly. But don't let it take over your practices! Try it e.g. three times on each side every practice, and then move on to other stuff. It'll come in time. But keep doing the strengthening exercises, they will surely help you with the knee hold eventually, and maybe improve some other moves too!

Have you tried searching e-bay or the like? I saw some inexpensive ones on there. Try searching for "exer-slide" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I get what you mean! I learned my spins, actually all beginner moves in sweats. When I progressed to aerial work in shorts, I still put on long pants to do my spins, because I just found them painful without. I finally decided I had to learn everything in shorts when I had to do a performance that included both spins and aerial work. I really limited our group routine by needing to do all spins first, taking of the sweats, and then continue with the rest. So I slowly built up to spinning in shorts by forcing myself to do each spin in shorts at least once every practice. I soon progressed to twice a practice, and pretty soon I didn't even need to think about it anymore. It just takes some getting used to, with both the pain from friction, and friction itself. Take your time, practice lots, and you'll be fine.

Ah, German, no prob for me :). That is one awesome combo he did there! Hmmmm, wonder if any of that is possible in real life 😀

Hi Penny,
Bad Kitty is actually on SV as well, so you could ask them directly. Look for MsBKitty!
And you're right that top looks very cute!

Lol! Those should be Glitter's signature heels! They're just as cute as she is too!

I mostly use the same shoulder for both. The end goal would be to do both comfortably on both shoulders though. It sounds like a good starting point for that. I'm working on desensitizing the other shoulder, and I started doing that by sometimes dismounting on that side. For some reason that's less painful than mounting on my non-dom. shoulder. So basically, as soon as you're comfortable with mounting and dismounting, try to start learning on the other shoulder for each, so you stay balanced and versatile. Good luck!
-
I strongly second that!
-
Excellent! I was actually looking for an additional stretching routine, so I'll be sure to start on this next week. I'll let you know how it goes! And thanks so much for sharing!!

Yay! Happy birthday!!! And may all your b-day wishes come true!

I just want to add to that, that when learning to shoulder dismount to definitely curl up as opposed to slide down into the SM position. What you want to do is "caterpillar" up so your butt is as far out as possible, and then curl your body up to put your shoulder on the pole. After that you can start lowering your body (shoulder dismount). When you've mastered the shoulder dismount this way you can start to try to get into that same starting position by sliding down with the butt out.
I hope I explained that right…

Chem is right, those are the ones I mean. If you can't see them you probably need to subscribe to her channel first to get access.
