Wrist/forearm strengthening and stretching, hand strengthening squeezes, and massage. All of which helps reduce pain and recovery time, and over time, the problem has relaxed a bit. I also flap my hands up and down, side to side, over to the outsides and back, and do circles both ways with them periodically at work when I am typing to keep everything going. This is just what I do. No doctor told me to do these things, its just what I found helps.

I need a slow Yoga, the basics class. They seem to offer a LOT of all levels Yoga classes , I guess to reach a broader audience. I'm only sure of 2 studios in the area and they both rotate the same instructors between them it seems.
They do that "all levels" thing with hooping classes too, and I feel bad for the person that comes to a workshop and they've never spun a hoop in their life, and everyone else is learning more advanced concepts. And everyone says "Its ok, if this is beyond you, keep practicing this other thing" but the person just paid workshop prices to learn how to hoop, and they barely took away what they came for. They could find that free in several parks any given weekend on a nice day, we have a LOT of people who teach hoop for free or tips. I really like the Yoga people because they visit schools teaching kids Yoga, and they allow you to pay what you can for a class, some people overpay, some under pay, I try to put in whats "recommended". I will revisit it one day when I see a class that looks like its a "Yoga for dummies" class lol

Well Pankake its funny because when I said that about directing flow of energy, I almost typed "Is that like, direct your attention here?" but I deleted it because I don't know what I'm talking about, just learning. Its really hard to breathe into things for me sometimes, like, how are these people working so hard and breathing so sloooowwwwwly lol. The flow yoga is the type of class I've tried before. I did NOT like it. And I didn't really feel the energy shifting until the end when we just laid out for a bit and everyone else was all calm and comfortable, I wanted to run away, it was so weird hearing everyone around me breathing, closing my eyes around other people, all of it. It was like a bad trip. I think I may want to try the more breathy posey Yoga…. I also felt a bit silly because they said the Yoga classes were open to all levels, it seemed everyone in there knew the routine, what was coming next. By time I figured out what I was supposed to be doing, people were onto the next pose. Also, I stick to the mats, I feel I can't flow into a lunge when my foot is all squickling and scrunching the mat, but no one else seems to have this issue. To combat it, I ask to go matless. Some teachers are like "whatever suits you" and others are rather insistant that I use a mat.
I've tried to get the hubster to do an acroyoga class with me. We practice at home based on things we've seen, but I'm a bit intimidated by a class if he's going to be shying behind me the whole time.

Actually, put that way, it makes a lot of sense. I think that "mindful flexibility training" was a good way to describe my Yoga ing lol. You elaborated on that perfectly. So this is good stuff. What about "directing the flow of your energy with this pose and that pose" Like chakra Yoga… Reiki type stuff even. I would LOVE to find someone who does Reiki. So curious about it.

My connection speed won't support skype, but I totally get you on the spirituality aspect. I like the stretching and breathing, and even meditation. But when instructors get really heavy into the 'Can you feeeel the energyyyyy" I can't help but feel like the person in church who doesn't get it lol. No. I don't feel the energy. But I'm also conflicted because I've heard that people are a bit irritated with "westerners" picking and choosing the aspects of Yoga that they like, rather than following all the teachings. I guess I'm just a mindfully training in flexibility. I'm just glad I'm not the only one. I've always wanted to feeeeeel the energyyyyyy but I feel like I only experience that alone. People throw me off. I also don't get why its so important to spread your fingers in a plank. A teacher told me to spread my fingers and push down mainly with my thumb and first finger in order to get the energy flow. It was just harder lol

Yeah I think ALL the moves in the first video I uploaded are on this list somewhere. I was like "wow really? chair spin ugly? wrist sit vulgar? waaa" lol

Well, I don't like water or beads in my hoops because it throws the weight balance off. If it doesn't bother you, then don't worry about it. Usually the beads are just there to make sound. I actually recently made a hoop for a woman who requested I make it rattle to remind her of childhood hooping as she was letting it whirl. Her kids love it too.
Harder pushes will make a hoop go faster, but with the balance thrown off by the water, it may get wonky. I often play with this type thing when I see hoops in the store. You hoop and it swishes 3 times then all the pebbles get locked in place with force for a spin or two then they start going around again. If you do a fast enough weave, the pebbles will just stay where the outward (centrifugal force) is.
If you enjoy it and it feels good, stick with it. If its difficult or unbalanced feeling, you can try draining the water, but it will still be a very light hoop for you if you are a beginner. My definition of "big enough" for beginners (if thats what you are) is usually 38-40 inches. I haven't found a kiddy hoop that big. They make 36s now fairly regularly in kids hoops, but I still don't like how light and flimsy they are.
Good luck!

I also find the Levoxl (brand name levothyroxine) was MUCH better than generics. Both my endos insist upon it (though my insurance company always "recommends the cheaper generic alternative). I am currently on Synthroid. It manages fairly well. More predictable release/absorption.

Everyone has given great advice, anything I could say would probably be a repeat of something. But I will say, I have lost a LOT of weight, and I suffer hypothyroidism as well as PCOS (too much testosterone, not enough estrogen.) There are times I gain 10 lbs in a week, then I lose 12 in 2 days. ALL hormones. But the long term results, more strength, flexibility, less pain, better mindset, are well worth all the hard work. I started out at around 200 lbs, considered obese for my height. I am now around 145-150 depending on the day, and I find that the weight I "go back to" is the one I watch. I was hung on 151 for a while. I'd have a 148 day and feel great (149.9 is the number that says I'm healthy and not overweight, by BMI standards) then I'd see that 151 again. It wasn't too long before that "fall back" number was 147. I'm hoping the next will be even lower, but for the moment, I'm stuck there, but recognizing is what keeps me from feeling hopeless or helpless. And yes, if my thyroid level gets off, I WILL gain 30 lbs in an incredibly short period of time, and it is HARD to work them off when they get your levels right, and as soon as your levels are right, well, you lost x amount of weight so they need to adjust your dosage. I feel you. Just keep on keepin' on, you will overcome!

I have the same experience as chem. Guage your soreness, if it is HURTING, don't risk an injury, but if it is workout soreness, you may find that pushing through it is relief. I've gone from basically hobbling around back to full non soreness just from working a little bit the muscle groups that were hurting. Even if its not a full workout or anything, maybe a few squats or heel raises or something, it will solve the soreness. I still fatigue more quickly on those days, muscle wise.

This is an article about the making of this video. There are several other go pro hoop videos out there as well. One has the go pro attached to a remote control helicopter and gets an aerial view of it all. Neat stuff.

I love my eyes
I love my legs
I love my butt lol
I love that I'm stronger, healthier, and at the lowest weight of my adult life
I love that I can actually support my body in interesting and beautiful ways
I LOVE that I love flipping up side down, spinning around, climbing up high, and jumping.
I also love how awesome my pointed toes are. I have been proud of that since my ballet teacher used me as an example of a proper point when I was little lol.

I would love to Guinea Pig for you! Message me with a good email address to send a photo to 🙂

🙁 Sad to hear you won't be able to continue on with it, but it sounds like the right move for you. Good luck lady!

I know of a pro golfer who attributed her weight loss to it. She did say it was very painful, on the borderline of torture, but worth it. I know me and my sensitive nature, I tell the masseuse to go light, so I don't think I would ever do rolfing, but I have heard its praises sung.

I think the V teddy looks bad, especially if you have any extra on your thighs, it just looks painful. I LOVE the wrist sit lol. I can't really think of anything besides the V teddy that I really don't like…… Maybe the jackknife. Anything too contortiony is admireable but usually not necessarily "beautiful" in a traditional sense. I think chopsticks is a little odd without being pretty flat. Don't really like the Marley. Not that I can do any of these moves, but just what sticks out to me as "Thats pretty!" vs "Thats cool! Eventually maybe I'll try it just to say I did…" Rocketman isn't gorgeous. Some of the Titanic variations using the neck look a bit ackward. I do love the flatline scorpio and bottle rocket.

Thanks Ari. I will pay close attention to myself during next practice. Im trying hard to keep elbows close as well.

I definitely plan to get a video. Its very hard to upload as I have a satellite internet connection, it takes 6+ hours to upload a 3 min video. I took yesterday off pole. I will see what I can do tonight. I appreciate everyone's continued advice and support. I will also try the plow-like pole exercise Chem explained (if I'm understanding it correctly….)

I live in a "standard" rancher house, the ceilings are 8 ft. They are too short from me. I moved from a place that had nearly 9 ft ceilings. Didn't think I would miss one little foot until I put the pole up in the new place, put my old extension away, and I'm just UGH! I would LOVE to have 9 ft again, 10 is ideal, 12 would be a dream, anything above that becomes cumbersome for a home pole IMO. I definitely want a bigger room! My pole room is 10×10 and I can't get the camera far enough away to get my whole self in frame, there is a ceiling fan taking up the whole center of the room, so I have my pole off in the far quadrant, and its still a small room for poling, but a large room by general standards. I would love a 14×12 10 ft tall pole room <3<3<3 I really love old style homes with high ceilings and large kitchens, but I don't trust their structure as much as a newer built home.

When I was filming my first videos, I was trying to pull out at least ONE move that I felt was cool and actually a pole pose. I got into a wrist sit, and was SO HAPPY I nailed it after not practicing it in a while. In the video I DIDN'T post lol, you see my face light up and I squeel of joy, and promptly loose all composure and fall right down the pole. Its hilarious. I flattened out so I wouldn't hit my back, and the bottom of the frame is cut off, so all you see is my legs sprawl out as I fall, then I sit back up into the frame, and hug my elbow lol. Then I grab the pole to get up, I make it to my knees and grab my elbow. Then I start walking to turn off the camera, and I pause, to yes, grab my elbow. No bruises (that amazed me), no muscle damage, wasn't even hurting after 10 minutes, and I went back and took one more video and called it a night. Boy was it funny. The largest, beamingest smile I think I am capable of, and the rug gets yanked right out from under me. My husband said it was like first time surfers, they work so hard to stand up and ride a wave, and when they finally get that wave, they inevitably give that huge grin before losing their balance and wiping out haha

One day I want to visit your house! It sounds grand, and you know I only work a few minutes away from Brandermill 😉

I think 14 ft is about the max you'd wanna put an xpole out to when using extensions and such, at least thats what I've read. Did you ever call x pole when they said they had a possible solution for your dance space? What did they propose?

I wonder where I even got that hold from. I was just trying to find it in the gallery, its like outside arm was doing split grip, inside arm was doing side pole hold. So thats how I did all tucks and fan kicks etc. for a long time before I took the class at the studio and the instructor pointed it out. She did say that one of the other instructors inverted from that position, but that she personally didn't like it because it left the outside hand too high on the pole with nowhere for the feet to go. All makes perfect sense lol
