I was asked to speak at the convention https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif ….. but turned it down https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif With the kids and no one to watch them I just don’t see it working out. Chris has already miss a lot of work due to planned and unexpected trips. I’m hoping that I’ll get to go, but I’m sure it will be last minute. If only my mom would take up my constant offers to fly her out here to be with her grandkids!!!! I miss out on everything. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif Oh well my kids wont be little forever I guess……..

I hear you Veena! I’m lucky I do have a lot of support from my parents and my man. I get to do a lot, but if I got to do everything I wanted, well, I guess I woudn’t be a good mom! If my babysitter was home from college I would offer her up to your kids- she’s phenomenal!
Hopefully you can make it out to the other coast and meet up with everyone! If you do, I hope I get to meet you!

i love this thread! it’s late but thought i would throw in my two cents….
    for rompers…
    http://www.funkypair.com/dangerouscurvesisastretchmetallicromper.aspx
they have it in leopard and white… it’s hot, although i may have bit more flesh than the model!

http://www.funkypair.com is a cool site… they have a ton of stuff.
    i also like:
    yandy.com
    3wishes.com

s-factor shorts are great but apparently they changed their supplier and the waistband changed to something that has a little dig to it.
    happy shopping!

doubles means 2 dancers performing at once… whether that means means synchronizing moves on 2 poles or having 2 people on poles sometimes, will be up to the performers and what they choreograph.
we are looking to have a male only comp but not until later in the year and at that point it may be on the east coast.
hopefully you can try out the doubles as a first alternative?

    @ man candy-
i will be posting soon about a competition we are having in june on the west coast. there will be the opportunity for men to compete as part of a doubles competition. doubles can be male/female, or both male, both female. how many men do you know that pole?

@ mini-cooper- you could take the megabus up to nyc. it’s very cheap! we are taking it from dc, and although we opted for a pricier time leaving $17 up, there is a departure bus to nyc for just $1.00. They pick up outside of Baltimore… you should check it out!

I’ve pretty much found agreement with most everyone in this thread. The thing is, it’s just a different style. No better, no worse, definitely not "cheating." It’s just like some folks add more fitness style, some add a more exotic approach, some people like barefoot, some like heels. Each type has it’s own challenges and advantages. I think the person who expressed this comment was either being flippant or maybe she just has a hard time on the spinning pole!

The Charlottesville, VA crew stayed at the Wellington Hotel last year and that’s where we are headed again. 4 of us are sharing a room, so it will run us about $68 perperson per night. look forward to seeing some of you again and meeting others!

i started pole dancing at 30, no formal dance, nor gymnastics. i took a couple of swing dance lessons from parks and rec, but somehow, i think that didn’t matter! i can pole dance but i can’t ballroom!

I am the East Coast Rep for USPDF as of right now. But that only means I help out if members have questions about studios and I was the local coordinator for the competition here in Oct. And I have absolutely no idea how they choose! i’m not given any intel for sure!
I’m not sure why they picked so few for the amateur competition, other than they probably have the theatre rented for just the day and only had enough time for 6 amateur performances. I know that’s not a great reason but logistics matter in coordinating unfortunately.
I guess also we have to keep in mind they are a relatively new organization and everything they do for a while is a learning process. I think as they continue to grow they will offer separate/larger competitions for amateurs. But that’s just my guess. It is unfortunate for now, as I know there are many amazing performers who would love to be on the stage.

    Hey Chrissy
I’m from Charlottesville and teach at E-Fit Dance @Shergold Studio. So definitely a trek for you! I know Esteem Fitness is in VA Beach. So you could possibly try there!
If you are interested we are hosting "Cirque de C’ville" on January 30th. We’ll have workshops with Jessalynn Medairy, Karol Helms, Takeila Fox, and Erica Shergold. Then that night the pole ladies will do performances along with some of our local "E-Fit Femme Fatales"
Let me know if you are interested I’ll give you more info.
Good luck finding a home base but we can keep in touch here!
    (my name is really sam!)

Where do you take hoopdance in Charlottesville. I thought about that for a while too but pole keeps me pretty occupied right now!
I know Tina from Chic Physique. She’s lovely, and I think you’ll enjoy her classes. We dropped in to one of her chairdance classes and it was a lot of fun.
My kids are 4 and 2- and are very efficient at driving me crazy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Definitely keep me posted on your travels, especially if I can do anything to make your stay in Charlottesville easier.
I guess you are enjoying the snow too?
