Just got back from my second physio therapy appt. For my shoulder. Good news is he doesn’t think there’s a year at all in there it’s definitely an impingement and I caused a lot of tenderness and soreness in there from it. He has been doing a humeral slide to relieve the impingement and he’s been haveing me do scapular excercises to help me learn how to stabilize my scapula and not round my shoulders forward which pulls and impinges the rotator cuff. He likes your excecises . So I have the go ahead to do your videos for shoulders plus a few that he has given me to help with the internal rotation in my shoulders . It’s mild but it’s there and it’s an issue. I want to encourage all girls who love pole to see a physio therapist. I think going forward …when I start teaching pole…I’m going to require a release from the students physio therapist. I have a mild kyphosis and a mild scoliosis in upper back with scapula winging and internally rotated shoulders . Yikes. So glad I went to this Dr. He said he is gonna get me to where I will be stronger and less injury prone so I can continue my love for this sport into my old age….lol…I love this guy and you have a BIG seal of approval from him Veena. Yes your video helped me understand why this happened to me. I haven’t followed your videos in order not have I worked through them consistently. That was my fault. You have such good lessons and a well thought out plan for progression. This time I will follow that.

I now have an impingement in my infraspinatus due to pinching my shoulder blades down so tight. I was afraid of hanging by my shoulders rotator cuff tendons so I really clamped down my scapula and caused an impingement. I’m in physio twice a week now. Ughhh

I had my stainless steel pole powder coated at a powder coating paint shop this year and I love it. I still have to use dry hands on cool dry days but it’s much easier to use now. I’m going to get that tape too so I have more grip for tricks. I can still spin on static mode but it’s not as easy so I use spin mode to spin mostly now. Also sliding down the pole is a little rough on the thighs so don’t do that with powder coating .

She does seem to have a good strong side grip. I’m gonna try doing this with a pair of boots on. I don’t want to ruin any of my pretty shoes slideing on them like she does. I’ll see at my next practice about useing the toe of my boots to push into the floor and see if that helps me move around the pole easier. I’d love for you to do a tutorial on this. That would be great !! I may also put a sock on my dressy heels and see if that works. To avoid scuffing them.

Ok…maybe it’s because she uses her platform heels to push into the floor and slide on??? I’ve never worn platform heels before . I pole barefoot. I wonder if this is why I can’t do it. Sorry to keep ranting on here . I need to think out loud I guess .

November 11, 2019 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Slippery X-Pole! HELP!!

Just solved my slippery pole problem. I have a xpert sport chrome pole and an xpert pro combo stainless steel pole. They were ok when I first got them but it seemed the more I cleaned them the slicker they got. I tried white distilled vinegar I tried different percentages of alchohol I tried heating up my pole I tried warming up good but to no avail I was going to get some grip aid because I was so discouraged I couldn’t use my poles/ Then I thought about one thing I hadn’t tried. to make my pole studio into a hot humid bar room like at the clubs where the girls are all sweaty and its hot and muggy from all the people. Also my poles worked better in the summer months when I first got them but now that’s in cooler here in New England I cant use them at all. So I plugged in my Vicks vaporizer for 20 minutes in the room while I did my warm up routine. I turned it off when I was ready to pole and I stuck to it!!!!!! woohooo. Im beyond happy! Apparently I needed to make my room and my skin warm and muggy like in a bar or like the humid summer months. So no grip aid needed for me now. I am so happy. If anyone else tries this post it here please Id love to hear if it worked for you. Thanks

The studio I went to didn’t explain any of that so I often got discouraged. I’m so glad I stuck with it.

I too found it difficult to spin and that step around was Soo confusing to me. It took me 6 months of two classes a week to finally do that step around to wear it was graceful and pretty and I can even get airborne with it now…I love doing that!!! I thought it would be impossible but now I look back and think wow…I’ve come so far. Soo glad I kept at it and didn’t give up. I’m skinny so weight has nothing to do with it.

That’s such good advice. I’m gonna put a twin size mattress on each side of pole lol. But yeah learning how to fall out of it would definitely remove the fear of falling . I’ve been so busy trying NOT to fall it never occurred to me to learn HOW to fall. Funny how such simple things can change everything.Thank you!!!

This was a very helpful post for me. I get a bit worried haveing myself bungee tied to the pole haha . I really need to find someone to spot me untill I’m comfortable. What if my leg got caught up and I couldn’t slip it out and I came down wrong. Oooh. Wouldn’t be good.

Hi Im new to pole,,,under a year, I just started to attempt handsprings and from what I hear its a slow going process. I am using a stretch band around the pole and hooking it around my foot so that as I start to move one foot off the pole ( from an invert) I don’t fall off the pole so fast. Takes the scariness out of it for jme. Im learning to strengthen my core and arms from an invert before kicking up into it from the floor. Good Luck. Dee

Thank you to both Ladies…My arms feel tender mostly the biceps so a break is a good idea and switching up the excercises Bi Week;y would be good to give them more rest time.I can work my biceps one week then my triceps the following week. Im a personal trainer and Im use to training the same body part twice a week but Im needing to change my thinking when it comes to Poleing because doing 40 lb bicep curls is way less intense than lifting my bodyweight 150lbs. This is sooo challengeing!!! Love it!!

What about the wintergreen scented rubbing alchohol? It’s a green solution. Smells so nice.

Thank you everyone so much for your support. I definitely am too concerned about my age. It’s definitely because of the classes in in with 20 year olds. I will make a.conscious effort to focus on myself instead. You ladies are all awesome!!! So glad I found studio veena.

Yes I definitely need a longer workout and recovery. I took a hammock class last night just before my pole class and that actually helped. Today I slept 10 hours from all over body soreness but it feels so good LOL…the body was definitely made to move and use our muscles. The endorphins are worth the soreness. I’m only 3 classes into level 1 so I expect this soreness now. I know I’m in the strength building phase. You hit the nail on the head…I feel like the class mother haha. Everyone’s doing cartwheels. I haven’t done a cartwheel in over 30 yrs !!! I’m a certified personal trainer. I’m thinking I should get certified in beginners pole and hammock too so I can teach the 50+ group. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your encouragememt. I do need.to shift my focus. I’ve been surrounded by young beautiful girls and I felt intimidated and overwhelmed…I feel better when I just do studio veena at home. Maybe I should start a small group of 50 + woman to meet at my home pole studio once a week and train and have fun together. Then just take a class once a week with the younger crowd. I think I’d feel better.

Wow…thank you so much ladies…this is encourageing. I want to be able to look and feel good on the pole. It all seems overwhelming at times since I’m still in the strength building/flexibility enhancing process. I won’t give up as I’ve noticed improvement in just 6 months. But wasn’t sure how realistic i was being at thinking I could get as strong as I need to be. Taking classes may be whats causing doubts in me because I’m the oldest in my classes. I go twice a week and need to recover the rest of the week lol…a good kind of sore though. And the bruises!!! Lol…but I love it. I think when I finish my Level 1 classes in going to just stick to Veenas online classes so I can go more at my own pace and focus more where I need to. Instead of havein g to.follow along with all those 20 year olds. It’s discouraging me. Thank you again all you lovely lady polers for your feedback and encouragement.
