I usually just go into a regular Scorpio then slide to the floor. My instructor goes back into a thigh hold and slides down. It looks awesome but is surprisingly difficult.

Stretch marks suck! I used bio oil throughout my pregnancy and for about a year and a half after, it will NOT get rid of stretch marks but it will make them less noticeable. Stretch marks are scars. They won’t go away. If you listen closely to the commercials for the oils/creams they tell you that flat out. Even lasers can’t get rid of them completely. Sorry sweetie your stuck with them. Good news, spray tans can make them all but disappear. AND no one sees them the way you do. Chances are you are looking at yourself through a microscope, take 10 steps back and look again. Things that were huge problems become invisible. All that being said if you find a cure let me know (you will become a billionaire)!

Why does it matter what other people think? Do what you need to do to improve your strength. If that involves grip aides/gloves/boots who cares! Sticking to the pole helps (alot), so don’t appologize. Everyone has a different body chemistry some people stick, some people slide, in my experience everyone does both depending on the season. Do what you need to do and don’t apologize! If you are competing, follow the rules of that comp. If you are just poling for health/wellness/fun do what you need to do to impove your strength. We don’t all have to be Felix.

@Amy Ok so my ribs finally feel “ok” and I just tried your way… I am still falling when I flatten out! I think I may need more info on what is going on on the “inside” of the jade. Ie. Is your armpit doing a lot or are you even in the pit? There are alot of “good side” views of the Jade but what is going on on the otherside? I am sorry that I am a pain in the butt, BUT the stupid Jade is kicking my ass!

I’ve been trying to get into it the way cinara described, I wasn’t aware that the other way was any different in terms of body/pole position. What happens is that when i try to “flatten out” the pole rolls up onto (and crushes) the tiny ribs at the bottom of my ribcage OR I fall. It seems like when I have the pole completely in the soft bit of my waist I get a hole when I try to extend (if that makes any sense) I ONLY have problems when I extend the back leg past 1 or 2 o’clock.
Could you explain the other way? That might be the way I need to do it, cause what I am doing now is not working for me.

There is another option, Lil Mynx has powder coated poles (like in the playground) But overall unless you have *really* sweaty hands I would say focus on the diameter of the pole not the finish. A small pole will be easier to grip as well as help you to develop core strength faster therefore you will get more tricks. R pole has a testimonial from a doctor on their site extolling the virtues of 38mm poles. And after almost 2 years of poling I totally agree.
Another thing to consider is that stainless steel “seasons” well. Meaning that the more you use it/abuse it the grippier it will get. In the mean time a slippy pole will help develop hand strength. Just look at the guys who pole in sweatshirts and jeans. They don’t care about grip they are strong enough to create enough pressure to hold ANYTHING without grip. (but if your not superman, Brass 38mm if you can)

I think you have to take the whole online dating thing with a grain of salt. If you go to a bar (as an example) there will probably be 1 or 2 guys out of 200 that you are actually attracted to. I would not sign up for a dating site expecting better odds (its probably going to be worse). But that being said your online “bar” really has no limits. You can go through tens of thousands of profiles (after the bar) if you want. So I would say put a profile up, you never know. But I wouldn’t expect better results than real life encounters.

From a CKR you could go into a cross knee bridge then back up to a drama queen. Or if you can do the splits you could replace the plank with pole splits, if your hands are sweaty and you slip your bottom foot won’t be far from the ground and it will just look like a really cool dismount. You could also replace the plank with a Daphne ( http://poledancedictionary.com/moves/60/daphne/ ) if the spin slows or even stops it’s still a pretty pose.

Alright I guess I have to do this one. My computer shit the bed and died in may ( I have a shoes only vid still on my camera) The Aug challenge will be motivation to get my POS fixed and finally post a challenge vid. My bday is in august so this is quite fitting. I would also like for this to be my first edit free vid. Maybe even a MPDAlberta audition. Good idea Veena.

I know 4 people with new xperts 2 of them have had problems. That is unacceptable. No matter how fast/courteously they respond to problems 50% is a really shitty success rate. If xpole does not resolve the issues with their manufacturer soon they will lose alot of business. I know that I won’t be ordering one any time soon. If I find myself in need of a new pole I’ll pay the extra 100$ for a platinum stages pole. Yes they have issues (especially with their stage) but their multi pieces work! Right out of the box, no replacement pieces necessary. If I lived in Australia I would probably get a pussycat or a Bobbi’s pole. I have never heard of any problems with either.

I have heard great things about Bobbi’s poles, but being in Canada it would cost upwards of 1000$ to get one here. I have a platinum stages multi piece pole and I love it. But if I could buy a new one and money was no object I would get a Bobbi’s pole. If you are having grip problems go for a smaller pole, the finish shouldn’t matter that much. I do hot yoga and I once had an instructor tell the class that no matter how sweaty you are you should be able to create the force through intention to hold the pose. So that’s what I think about every time I feel like I’m slipping. Hope that helps.

P.S. Lil Mynx poles are great on carpet. On hard flooring they slip. I’ve had it happen at the studio I go to multiple times.

Ok so my original post to this thread was F the scale, go by how you feel. I stick by that. But I have had body comp tests done before I started pole and after 1year of doing pole. In one year I lost 20 lbs of fat and gained 10lbs of muscle. So my bathroom scale only showed 10lbs of weight loss but I had really lost 20lbs of fat. THAT is why you should never trust a scale. They really do lie. And as for BMI… It’s the single largest load of BS that I have ever come across. The upper range of healthy BMI for me would leave me at 12% body fat (unless I loose muscle). The average body fat % of a swimsuit model is 18%. I hope to never enter a healthy BMI range.

P.S. Your boobs don’t stop growing till your 21(if you are lucky). That’s why good plastic surgeons won’t do breast augmentations on teenagers. So if you’ve gone up a cup size consider yourself lucky.

Throw out your damned scale! It lies!!! The best advice I have ever gotten is to judge your weight by your health. There is a BIG difference between healthy and skinny. If you feel healthy and you don’t need to special order Moo-Moos from the Big ‘N Tall store you are probably ok.

I love my Platinum Stages pole. The issues seem to be with their customer service and not their poles… If you do order from them ask for a top loading pole.

When I initially posted this thread I thought no one would reply. I love that this seems to be a hot topic, it shows that we need more comps here. @ Oliviaaa I agree that there need to be more competitions in Canada, but I don’t understand your frustration with MPDC. If you look at the U.S. they have lots of competitions that are not affiliated with USPDF or APFA. MPDC is a national competition. Someone has to be in charge. And thank you to Tammy for taking the bull by the horns and organizing a national event. I’m sure that it has not been easy (or profitable) for her.
@MPDAlbertaOrganizer Battle of the Pole? I have not heard of this one. Details/links would be appreciated!

Chinese and true grip (and cup) are all the same. Thumbs down, all fingers pointing in the same direction.

I have had no pains in my wrist doing twisted grip but I’ve been trying Chinese to get into the iron x and when I do it it hurts. My wrist is sore for days. I know Veena does not do TG cause it is bad for your wrists, but that way feels more comfy for me. Am I doing something wrong in Chinese?

I agree with Veena. Grab higher than you think you should and Veena grip (or twisted/respect grip) is more secure than cup. That being said the first time I rolled over my collar bone and slipped down a bit was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me on the pole. BUT I didn’t fall! And from the sound of it you didn’t either. So instead of thinking of it as a slip or fail I think of it as a save. You are strong enough to pull it off AND save your self if it doesn’t go exactly as planned. Good for you!
