The only thing you need to apologize for is apologizing! That dance was beautiful & graceful & God appreciated every second of it. Unfortunately, Christians sometimes make the biggest hypocrites. How you choose to praise God is between you & God! Noone else! Now if you had dragged your pole up in the middle of church & started booty poppin’ on it in a rhinestone jock-strap while the church ladies made it rain Easter eggs, then maybe they might have had a right to say something. But you did that in the privacy of your own home with good intentions in your heart & God knows that. That is all that matters. It was out of the goodness of your heart that you chose to share it with others. If they didn’t like it, they didn’t have to watch! If they can’t open their minds to see that there are other ways to praise besides hollerin’ & faintin’ in church (& there’s nothing wrong with that either, whatever floats their Christian boats), then they should keep their opinions to themselves. To each their own. Whatever brings you close to God & moves your spirit, you do it to the best of your ability! If God didn’t want you spinnin’ on that pole, he wouldn’t have made you so damn good at it!!!!

HaHa! Kerrie, your original post cracked me up! Your parents sound fun. At least they are willing to discuss it with you & listen to what you have to say. I just got my pole last month, but was very interrested in pole dancing/fitness for a long time prior to that. The first person I ever saw really "work a pole" was a friend of mine who had started dancing at a strip club. She was like a little monkey! I was amazed at how effortlessly she she would climb, spin, flip, etc. But, she is one of VERY FEW exotic dancers that I have seen actually do so. Like many of the ladies have said, the majority of dancers in my area hardly pay attention to the pole & just look bored. Those are most likely the ones that are there for all the wrong reasons.

Something else I realized when I spent months on YouTube & the web researching pole dance/fitness: it is much more popular & better understood/accepted overseas. Unfortunately, in America, we tend to attach negativity to nudity, the naked bady, & anything sexual. Not always, but most of the time. I just find that other countries have a much more open-minded attitude towards the human body as an art form & not just a sex object. In America, as soon as you say "pole", people think strip-club & start thinking negative thoughts. It’s sad that it has to be that way. Have you thought about asking your parents to try a few things? I now it may sound a little silly/crazy, but it may help them better understand the fitness part of it. I can’t tell you how many of my friends have tried my pole out & been like, "That is waaay to hard!" Show them a few moves & then let them try. I bet they think differently! LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

As far as the "sexy" side of it, I really think pole dancing is no different than any other dance form: you learn how & then you make it your own. You can teach any style of dance (ballet, salsa, line dance, hip-hop, whatever) to a group of people, & then have them each do it on their own, & everyone is going to have their own "style". Of course pole dancing can be sexy! But it can also be extremely gymnastic. It just depends on you & what mood you are in when you get on the pole. I would just stress to them your reasons for doing it. Look up "chinese pole" on YouTube. Also, show them Cirque du Soleil videos. I’m not certain on this, but I believe someone told me that one of the winners of Miss Pole Dance Australia (again, I may have the details wrong) was signed to perform with Cirque du Soleil.

I really think the bottom line is that pole dancing is like anything else you do in life: It is what you make of it. You get out of it what you put in. I’m sure once you put the pole up & they see how much time & effort you put into practicing & improving your skills, they will understand & be more supportive. But save the blinky shoes for practices when they aren’t home! LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I’m sure it will work out for the best since your parents seem to be very cool people.
    Best wishes!

Hey there! You sound just like me…LOL…I am covered in bruises! I’ve had my pole for 1 month now. I got a blister on my right palm after my first week. It took it a while to heal, but since then, I haven’t had any blisters. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

My palms sweat like crazy, too! Sometimes I have to wipe the pole between almost every move. But then other days it’s not that bad. I asked about that on here when I first started, & everyone advised me that it’s perfectly normal & will get better with time & practice.

That’s about all I can tell you snce I’m such a newbie! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif But you are definitely in the right place, because everyone here is super nice & extremely supportive.

    Best wishes!

Thanks so much for all of the advice. That makes me feel much better. I was beginning to think maybe I was just too puny for the pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I’m sooo glad I found this sight…everyone has been very kind & helpful! Thanks again!
