    Pinky,

Thanks for your concern, but I do know all of the risk involved. My Dermatologist is a professional and informed me of everything. I brought home a pretty thick manual that explains everything, and I read it cover to cover in the doctor's office before I signed my pledge agreements. I don't know if you know, but someone who is taking or wanting to take Accutane has to sign a pledge agreement (two if you are a women) stating that they will tell their doctor if they are having any weird symptoms, thoughts of suicide, depression, etc. The second pledge is for women who swear they will be on two forms of birth control at all times while on the medication and for at least one month after because of the severe birth defects it can cause. Also, as Amy mentioned, this medication is highly regulated in the US and there are multiple blood tests that check cholesterol levels, blood counts, cell counts, etc (and pregnancy tests for women) that have to be done every month with the test results in before the doctor can even try to prescribe the meds. The most common side effect is very dry skin, dry eyes, dry mouth, dry nose, etc. The others are not as common. I understand the risks, and I trust that I am in good hands with my doctor. Plus, if I start to feel all weird, I will let him know right away. I'm going into this with a positive outlook on life, and I don't see myself being affected negatively in any way except the dryness. I believe the depression side effects of any medication depend on the individuals outlook before even taking the meds.

Anyway, apart from that, I'm from an area not too far from you in Fla. If you participate in rodeos, I'm sure you've probably been to one where my Mom lives 🙂

    Minicoopergirl,

I so glad to hear you got it worked out. I have been super discouraged in poling since the summer due to lack of grip. At first, I thought it might be the heat, but now I think it's because I never cleaned it properly with Acetone. Plus, I was using Windex to clean it. Now, I have switched to alcohol but I'm still having issues and have just put it away with intent to purchase a TG Xpert (I have a chrome Xpert). I will have to get some Acetone and give it a good cleaning and see if that helps. I really miss poling, and I was hoping to be much further along in my pole skills by now (I got my pole in April 2010 and haven't done much due to lack of grip). Thanks for posting this, and thank you to all of the responses (especially Charley) who have shared their experience and issues. I'm ready to try the acetone 🙂

    Poledanceromance,

It doesn't sound like you are using a moisturizer of any kind. This may be why your skin is over producing it's natural oils thus causing you to have clogged pores and breakouts. With all fo the 'take away oil' products you are using, you also need to add an oil free moisturizer to compensate so your skin doesn't go crazy from being so dried out. The most important thing is that the moisturizer is oil free. This may help your skin so that it doesn't over produce the oil.

I used to use Proactiv, but my skin is too sensitive for it. Even their sensitive line is pretty harsh for me. I have had acne since I was a teenager, and I am now battling adult acne. I have had a huge breakout since August 2010, and I think it was due to a change in my skin care. Because the Proactiv was irritating my skin, I switched to Mary Kay's Classic Basic line for sensitive, acne prone skin. That was not a good idea. My face broke out even more, and now I can't get it to go away. I finally got fed up, and I am seeing a dermatologist. My doc is going to put me on Acutane to see if that will help clear up my skin once and for all.

For now, I am using Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Foaming Cleanser (oil-free and not for the treatment of Acne so it's super gentle)  because I wear makeup most days to try and cover my break outs, and I moisturize with Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel or just straight raw Coconut Oil (aka Coconut butter). The coconut oil is solid at room temperature, and has great healing properties. I usually use the coconut oil at night because my makeup doesn't really wear well over the coconut oil. I cleanse and moisturize morning and night. Below are the links to the products I use. I hope you can get it sorted out, PDR. Let me know if you have any questions.

Most of the info was covered here to get you started, but I just wanted to say "I heart Tosca Reno, too!" Also, Clean Eating Magazine has great recipes (including a shopping list) that works with a $50 budget for five dinners feeding a family of four. If you are feeding two, or even just yourself, you have leftovers for lunch the next day! (that’s what I do) The new issue for January 2011 (on shelves now) has 7 meals for under $65. I think they have great ideas and variety for folks from all walks of life. NO, I do not work for them, lol. I just love the magazine. I eat clean 85%-90% of the time. My main problem with eating clean is remembering to eat every 3 hours or so. Anyway, just to name a few of the recipes from the $65 for 7 dinners menu in this issue…

Stovetop Potato & Apple Breakfast Frittata
Sweet & Salty Pork Stir Fry
Dilled Pasta with Chicken, Cauliflower, and Mustard Greens

LittleC – I too have an amazing sweet tooth, but my go to clean sweets recipe is from the March/April 2010 issue of Clean Eating Magazine. Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. Just one cookie is savory enough to satisfy that sweet craving without all the guilt. It also has only 6 ingredients, has no flour, is dairy-free and gluten-free, is low in sugar, and whips up in just over 20 minutes.

1 Cup unsalted almond butter, stirred well
3/4 Cup of Sucanat (I use Demarra, raw sugar, because that’s the closest I can find where I live)
    1 Large Egg
    1/2 tsp Baking Soda
    1/4 tsp Sea Salt
3oz Dark Chocolate (70% cocoa or greater), broken into small pieces

Preheat oven to 350F. In a medium bowl, stir together first 5 ingredients until blended. Stir in chocolate.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes. Remove to a wire rack and let cool for 15 more minutes. Makes 24 cookies

Nutrients per cookie: Calories 110, Total Fat 8g, Sat. Fat 1.5g, Carbs 10g, Fiber 1g, Sugars 3g, Protein 2g, Sodium 55mg, Cholesterol 10mg

    Janeallen,

I am from Gainesville! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif My mother-in-law still lives there, and I just got home from visiting her a couple weeks ago. My Mom has since moved to Williston/Morriston and is now running a restaurant in Steinhatchee. I went to school at Ft. Clarke Middle, Buchholz High, and Santa Fe. What a small world. I actually took a pole class at the Unified Training Center with my mother-in-law while I was visiting. I currently am living in Germany due to my hubby being in the Army. Best of luck with you poling. Maybe we could meet up for a jam session next time I visit Fla. Welcome to SV. It’s a great place to be https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

The South Shore area is located on the South side of Boston Harbor. My in-laws live in Hingham. Worchester is a bit too far of a drive from here. Thank you for the information, though. The Cape would be a little closer but I’m not getting any hits when I google for pole studios. I am getting two in Boston, but she doesn’t want to drive into the city too much

    Queenie,
See my previous post to Roxy. I think you could benefit from the walk to run program as well. You can always go at your own pace and if you aren’t ready to run more, then you would just repeat the the week you are on until you are ready to move on to the next week. Good luck!

    Roxy,
I am the same way. I am working on loving to run. I found a free podcast on iTunes that slowly works you into running. It’s a walk to run program over 8 weeks, and you slowly walk less and run more. It’s only 30mins each workout 3 days a week. It has been a ‘run’ saver for me. I love it. I’m up to week 4, and surprisingly it’s been pretty easy for me. I am now up to running for 4mins and walking for 1 min. I do this interval 5x and then walk for 5mins to cool down. They also have a website and facebook page to help keep you connected to others who are doing the same thing. This is their website http://runningmatemedia.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the podcast is called Running Mate 5k 101. Hope this helps you, Roxy! Good luck in your quest for loving to run! You can do it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

I just started running a month ago, and I am having a great time with it. In the past, I would get bad shin splints, and I didn’t feel like I could breath very well. This made me HATE running. Now, I’m taking a completely different approach to running, and I have ZERO pain/discomfort and I can breath just fine. I (with my husbands help) have done research on the most natural way to run along with the most proper form to help alleviate most, if not all, of my running pain. I run "barefoot" using shoes made by Vibram. I wear the KSO Five Fingers, and I absolutely love them and live in them everyday. I also am running in intervals using an 8 week walk to run program by Running Mate so that I can build up to running longer distances over time. The program is called 5K 101, and I found this program as a free podcast on iTunes. I am really enjoying it. By combining these things, my running experience has been much more enjoyable, and I can see myself sticking with it for a long time. If you have any questions for me, let me know. I will include a few of the websites where I got my information. I know you could eliminate your shin splints and hip pain by changing your form and not heel striking, and then you could run everyday for the rest of your life, if you wanted too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Enjoy your running!

August 4, 2010 at 11:18 am in reply to: Mirror for pole

If you have an Ikea near by, I agree that they have some of the best selections at affordable prices. I got this mirror (which is the same on Veena uses, I think) and I love it. It is just over 7 feet tall and almost 4 feet wide. The best part is that it’s only $100. Very affordable for the size. Right now I don’t have a pole space other than my living room, so when I need the mirror, I take it down off of my wall and then put it back when I’m done. However, I also agree with the other ladies that if you have separate space used only for pole, multiple packages of the 4 small squares can be used to cover the entire wall giving yourself a great view at a very reasonable price. let us know what you decide on. Congrats on the awesome gift! Your parents rock https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Thank you for the info, Doll. I kinda got it figured out, but unfortunately, the song I want to use is protected or something and can’t be converted. That is so stupid when I paid for it to begin with. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr I mean it’s not like I obtained the song illegally. Ugh, it’s frustrating. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
