Well…sadly I have to go to work in a few minutes so I can't run upstairs and try it but in my estimation your legs are in a lotus position from yoga – if you aren't strong enough or flexible enough you'd have to your hands to get in and out of the position…I would think you could get out of it gracefully by either going into jade because you have to pull your leg to get into jade anyway so that would look fairly seamless or your could undo your self back into hip hold or a variation of hip hold into a leg hang – you could possible go right into a scorpio out of it too.
Now – as soon as I saw I wondered how it would look or if it's possible and it should be – to do a superman out of it. Man! stupid work! i will work on this as soon as I get home!

I think it's called an indian sit or something – I've seen it before – totally forgot about this move.
I think it would be easiest to get into from an inverted hip hold because both legs would be straight and you could pull them into this lotus shaped position she's in. I'll give it a go later.

You can see them on the youtube page http://www.youtube.com/user/poledancinguniverse but I have to click the icon on http://www.poledancinguniverse.com to see them – it doesn't take me to the playlist automatically.
There are so many great videos up too!

I'm not sure what is going on with this, I know that people were voting multiple times – my boyfriend voted like 5 times – which I had to explain isn't fair and he shouldn't do that.
So far it looks like I am first based on this post here?!?!

Tite Grip – I second that! It's the only thing that has worked for me. You also have to learn to work with sweaty hands too. I know that at a certain point I'm not going to be able to hold my iron X so if I want to do it I have choreograph around the sweaty hands and do it sooner.
Make yourself dance through a song – AFTER you've used your tite grip and don't stop – if your hands are sweaty come down to the floor. Over time you'll get used to it and there are moves you will be able to do with sweaty hands. I can shoulder mount with sweaty hands or do an aysha or a straight edge. I can do a scorpio or gemini or a layback or a climb with sweaty hands. I can't do one handed spins or a reverse grab with sweaty hands so I don't do them at the end of a routine – I stick to lifted spins or spins with two hands. Half the reason I am so good at armpit grips is because they were go to moves so I tried to find ways to utilize them in all of my routines.
Pole diameter is important too – I can easier get through a whole song on a 45 vs a 50. I have very small sweaty hands so once the sweat comes I cannot grip the 50 for spins. I can often perform well on a brass pole with sweaty hands over a chrome pole – chrome seems to make my hands sweat for some reason where as stainless doesn't.
It took me like 2-3 years to be able to make it through a whole song with good tricks, spins and floor work so it can work you just have to figure out what you can and cannot do at certain points.
It also helps to limit your music to short songs. I generally only dance to songs that are less than 4 minutes right now because after that I have torrential hands, lol! Start with something short like 2 minutes. Even if you have to edit it – that's okay – build your confidence up. Instead if looking at as I can't make it through a song make the song fit what you can do – the longer you do this the better you'll feel AND you will be able to add more time.
Stay hydrated too. Don't drink caffeine before or during poling, limit salt intake. Drink lots of water before you pole – sometimes sweating is associated with dehydration so stay hydrated.
And if all else fails – I love what Amy said – BOTOX! lol!

I've done airbrush tanning once – it was Fantasy Tan. While the product was good and so were the results after a weekend of poling with Karol Helms I ended up with white patches because my skin was being ripped off and left on the pole and it ended up not being so good for me. By Sunday I was a splotchy mess on my legs. I don't recommend this for very active polers. I teach and practice a lot so it will never stay on me the way I want it to.
However it did go on nice and even and until I started ripping my skin off it looked nice 🙂 lol!

Hi guys! I made an event for it here. The class will be Sunday 5/29/11 1-3. Cost $75. Preregistration required! www.vixenfitness.net

I previously owned the Star Stand Alone (SSA) and sold it for half of what I paid for it just so I could put the money towards the X-stage Lite.
The SSA pole comes unscrewed, the base is super wobbly and doesn't lock into place very well, there is no way to add weights to it to make it more stable and platinum stages has been qupted telling SEVERAL people including myself and this was in DECEMBER that they "Now realize the 45mm star stand alone is not safe" and they are "taking it off the market." However they haven't. Do you want to sance on a pole that a company has ADMITTED is unsafe? They then told me that oh the pole is safe just not over 8ft. It doesn't come with carry cases and the base is PLASTIC.
The X-stage lite is heavy duty the stage is metal not plastic and each pie piece locks into the next one so that they don't move UNLIKE the SSA where the pie pieces pop out when you try to walk on it, the pole doesn't wobble nearly as much as the SSA, the s-stage has a place to put weights under it, extender legs for extra stability, is capable of going up to 10 feet and being totally safe to dance on AND comes with carry cases.
I had both poles in 45. The SSA actually cam unscrewed on me in the middle of a show in front of like 3,000 people while I was in a layback which could have been so dangerous. When I told them about it – they insuated I'm not a very good dancer and not terribly advanced. They also said if I don't want it to come unscrewed I have to do 30 right handed HUGE swings. SSA – worst product ever!

Thanks Crowningglass. I never knew recitals came with associated fees – then again I think everything does, lol!
I will say though – no matter what event is being put on – there's drama! From being a competitor – I can say that the organizers – Wendy and Anna – were running around like crazy making sure everyone was okay and had what they needed – everything from lunch to water to soothing nerves, answering questions. They were totally accessible. From the time we were accepted as finalist until the day of the show – they were totally available to us to watch videos, music selection, answer any questions no matter how stupid and I had a ton of stupid questions. Plus the amount of work that goes into have the stage built, poles put up, DJ and lighting and getting with 12 girls to sort out their lighting.
No matter WHAT kind of event you're putting on – I think you have to do it for the love of pole – I mean I cannot imagine what Jessalyn must go through putting on Pole Convention?!?!
I hope to see more large scale productions – whether conventions or showcases that promote pole in the togetherness aspect, I think competitions will always have their place but I think events about unity truly make us strong.
It 's important that we attend and support the events we can – I'm not saying go broke doing pole things, but I think community excitement and participation is really important.
And enough about ME lol, I just saw people chatting back and forth about showcases and comps and thought it deserved it's own platform.
Only thing I can say about the Detroit Showcases – is that once the music starts and you see the first dancer up there – the world is right, no matter what drama or nerves is going on.

At Lopsi – I think that people enjoy competition more because there is a winner but we do have a great support group here is Detroit and the midwest that come from all over including Canada to watch and participate. I feel very blessed and overwhelmed sometimes think about the support we've gotten in the pole community. SV has broadcast every single showcase which is awesome because we can include MORE people from the community that way.
Any event is hard to manage and put together, I feel like competitions bring out more people because they think maybe the talent is better? I don't know because every showcase I have ever been to, my socks have been knocked off and I've been blown away but the amazing men and women we have performing pole!!!!! I've been inspired and excited to pole for WEEKS after.
I've only been a part of one real competition and it was a lot of fun but a lot of work and the nerves were terrible. At a showcase you know everyone will love you because it's not judgy at a comp you feel like the whole audience is judging you and you aren't living up to their expectations – or that's how I felt. I felt raw after competing and spent – there is so much more emotion going on.
The great thing about comps is that it brings attention to the level of difficulty involved with pole and further legitimizes it in the mainstream audience minds. Plus competitions push you to be your best and perfect things and polish up. They make you get creative and force you push yourself harder than you normally would. I mean we push hard for shows but much harder at comps – it's a different kind of performance. Both at fun and necessary to the growth of pole.
