I would start refering to it around your child as something other than just a pole. For instance, "gymnastics apparatus" since she does gymnastics or, "dancing apparatus". It will get her in the habit of saying it around other people instead of just saying she's a pole dancer, which, while everyone here understands, other individuals might be less accepting.

When I started inverting I tended to bruise the right side of my hip. But that might be because I screwed up from jumping into inverts, aggrivated a rotator cuff, and then told myself I would only invert when I could do aerial inverts…so I only did aerial inverts. And instead of taking my time getting my body around the pole, I just kinda bounced into it.

Do you have veena's lessons? They really help with inverting. The clunky factor probably has something to do with the bruised rib.  I just inverted in my garage just to see if my ribs touched and aside from the ones under my boob, it doesn't seem like they should be touching, let alone getting injured to the point of bruising.

I would use a cosmetic glitter and mix it in with a medium that you know doesn't react to your skin badly in pole. Or, spray some hair spray on and throw the glitter over it. Thats probably not what she did, but that's what I would do.

I know Victoria's Secret makes glitter body spray.

As a dancer I absolutely hate clothes that look like this:

    http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/alakiss_2252_27668224

    http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/alakiss_2252_69156556

So as a dancer I pretty much hate anything with "half" stockings (stockings that only cover up to the thighs and down to the calfs), bands with hella bling (giant 3 inch diamonds on your clothes are not cute, but I'll avoid using the "G" word unless that's someone's stuff.) And the "cut cloth" thing looks cute in very very small amounts. Right across the boobs to add mystery, and that's about it. And the obnoxiously bright prints that make up 90% of the outfit instead of accenting? Dressing like a colorblind six year old is also not cute. Half of those outfits on that website are banned at my club because we pride ourselves on being a "gentleman's club", not a "strip club". "We sell fantasies, not lip shots" is what my manager says @_@

I like to dress to fantasy, and despite my awkwardness I am always complimented on  (1) my pole work (2) my outfit choices. Here's so outfits from Bad Kitty that I have purchased and am ALWAYS complimented on by people I work with who have seen it a million times:

Some things I look for when I am looking for clothes for work:

1.) Is it easy to take off? I won't wear a corset to work unless it is a zip-up in the front or a 5 clasp. The multi-clasp in the back does not work. I don't want to sit on stage for 40+ seconds having people laugh at me for not being able to take my shirt off
2.) Is the outfit completely seperate? I have bought outfits in the past that have had cute parts to them, and not so cute other parts. But they were sewn together. Leaving me unable to mix and match, and thus I would resell the outfits because they weren't versatile enough for me.
3.) Do I already have something like it? I strive to look different. Half the time guys will tell me, "you're not my type, but I loved your outfit so I had to get a dance." If every girl wore what I wore I'd be screwed.
4.) Does it cover everything? Personally, the outside of my personal area is a little large. I've considered getting a reduction surgery because that area is so personal to me. I guess this doesn't matter if you're a nude dancer, but I'm not. So I need underwear to stay put and cover everything without letting anything fall out. There are some boyshorts where this happens, and some thongs where this happens. I've never worn any bottoms that have covered "too much" though.

And then there are some outfits that I look for that I have never been able to find.

1.) Cute country girl looking lace that glows something other than white in the black light. I once saw a girl who had a lace top that was kinda like this:

    http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=63806060

But it glowed pink in the black light. And it had matching shorts. And she wore pink neon cowboy boots. And it looked freaking adorable.

Actually, pretty much anything neon and lace that is well made and not right out of a box I am looking for.

I WISH SOMEONE WOULD MAKE LEG WARMS THAT ZIPPED UP OR DOWN SO I COULD TAKE THEM OFF WHILE I POLE DANCE IN SHOES.

Seriously. Have a capital market on that. And take all of my money. I would easily pay $30 a pair for leg warmers that I could take off without having to take my 7+ inch shoes off to take off.

3.)  Did you know that most guys don't have a foot fetish, but really like leg warmers and stockings for some reason? I'm always looking for outfits to go with my really exotic hoisery.

it’s typically considered a “women’s sport” so when the gender role is switched up its it’s interesting. That, and when you’re a guy people’s first thought isn’t, “oh, you’re a stripper.”

Honestly, if I were ever to approach it, I would approach it through that artical. There are Christian groups all over the place who pole for Jesus. Your church could be the next :>

    there are many benefits to pole dancing. Pole dancing does, but is not limited to;

-increasing upper body strength through strength moves
    -increasing flexibility through stretching
    -stamina from dancing
    -self-esteem boosting
    -weight loss
    -friend making
-learning one or more style of dancing
-being able to be a bad-ass/ninja in public
-pick up tons of hot ladies/guys because of your sport (although this usually only applies to dudes)

I feel the same way as sassy. I’ve been in studios with smaller mirrors or mirrors with bevels and other obstructions and felt like they hindered my improvement. Depending on the size of your studio, if you have two rooms for two simultaneous classes, one can be cutesy and the other can purely fitness based.

Thank you for posting this. I’m a size 5-7 now, but used to be a solid 14-16. I’m still one of the bigger girls in my advanced class, and I know I’m months ahead of where they were when they were when they were pre-one year. But I still get what I call “big girl anxiety”. “I’ll never look that slim”,”if I was smaller I could do that” “I refuse to do that move because it makes me look fat,” etc. I get really let down and can’t perform as well as o could because I get caught up in how I look right then and there. Especially because the me in my head is not how I actually look. My instructor doesn’t understand because she is my size (but not my height) and the only thing she can say to me is, “you aren’t fat so I don’t know why you’re worried.” I’ll ask her to read this blog because I know she cares–she just doesn’t understand.

I have gotten moves and done them for a while and then I lose them for x amount of time without taking a break from the pole. Handspring and SG aysha are the two that love to just come around whenever they please.

@Chem I have a pair of beautiful pleaser boots that I wear with skinny jeans…I Snapped the heel at work so I have to be delicate with them. So walking is the only thing I would dare do in them. I love them so much, though. When I get this car crap figured out, I'm going to by the same pair in vinyl for learning new tricks.

    @Lizziepole

No, you can directly go from superman into allegra. You superman, and then when you drop instead of dropping into scorpio you drop straight into a pike—the tightest pike you could ever do ever. My studio calls it "superpike" 😛 And then reach the hand around the pike for allegra. So far my instructor and my friend Jessica are the only people who can do it like super fast and make the transition look flawless. But with the right practice you can do it so the pike almost isn't a step. Thus, superman –> allegra

Probably– you could do a modification of it from revese corkscrew to scorpio. But it would be teddy?

I think the dove drop is amazing. If you lack the flexibility for dove, you can always do superman –> scorpio instead. OR (and I don’t know the name of this drop) you go from superman to allegra. It’s tricky on a spinning pole, but the WOW factor is worth it 🙂

Depending on what length of pole you have, just dropping from inverted crucifix and stopping a few inches from the ground is a show stopper. I also like Jenyne’s drop combo…off the top of my head, I think she is either sitting or in figure head, then she leans sideways around the pole into brass money, and then drops again into flag. She does this in a few of her videos, but the most recent is uh…the eye candy one in tokyo. I’d get the link but I’m at work :/

Also, I really like the combo Anastasia does in her new pole passion video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL6I6jsS0VA

from 1:03-1:12, but you can cut it short after she does the roll down thing to standing at 1:08. Or even at the shoulder mount. Hm. Possibilities 😛

Oh, I'm going to try that at work!

I really love spin combos. I am terrible at them, though. I really like oona spin (which all the way into butterfly isn't as hard as it looks) and the ballerina spin combo on Veena's static spins-only video 😛

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9B-OQLIa-o&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=57

    Starting at about 1:30-1:38

fireman –> back hook –> ballerina

I actually excel at advanced moves but suck at beg/int when it comes to being amadextrius. I can do janeiro on both my right and left side, and CAR -> flag on both sides. Aysha and caterpillar both sides. gemini? NOPE. Not happening on my right.

I wear boots at work and your feet sweat more in boots, but the grip factor is way better and I feel like there’s more support in the ankles. I prefer boots over any kind of shoes

I find that moves are like cats; they show up and leave whenever they want. There are a few loyal moves that you will always have, and then others that you might only see once or twice (friggin' handsprings.) But; you will grow to love the ones you have more than anything because they're the ones you can depend on no matter what 🙂 And they'll always be there! Well. So far mine are. |: I have never heard of anyone having to "put down" a  move/stop doing one except for a while because of repeated muscle stress. But you can always come back to it.

Infact, most moves that I can't get, if I just ignore them for a while, I can normally do them again without meaning/ trying to. This has happened with handsprings, janeiro, and jade. Once I got jade and janeiro properly acoustumed to my body type, they've never left me :3 I hope your pole journey works out for you! Lots and lots of cats….

In my experience I prefer the clear heels for actual climbing. 3-5 inches is best. The vinyl looks better in my opinion, because I prefer black. But the black, unlike the clear tends to "peel" off exposing a grey soft undertissue that is somewhere between suede and cardboard. It does not play well with the pole. Also, I find that the clear shoes last longer. Most of my co-workers have had their clear shoes for 10+ without issue…the only thing that sucks that most clears come with white soles, which quickly become dirty and look unappealing |: But if it's a studio setting, I really don't think anyone will care 😛
