I prefer 2 per pole, especially if you're doing tricks because you have to have the rest in between. And yes, it gives you a chance to learn from others and a sense of camraderie. I like the switching between two people. I'd be lucky if there were only 2 ppl per pole at my studio. But there's some places like S factor where there's only 2 poles for like 10 students! It depends on how you structure/present the class. Some studios like to focus on the femininity and empowerment/soulfullness of it, so I can see how it would be better to have 2+ per pole because pole is only a part of the all encompassing camraderie/connectedness of the class. So while they're not geting 100% pole time, the students still thoroughly love it and keep coming back for more because they love the environment and the people they've found a connection with. Some people just like to go to class because it's a relief from their stressful day. At S factor, there's some student that won't even hop on the pole.. they just want to free dance and take the stress away, but do it in a safe environment. So if it's a place that they'll love going to, that brings them out, challenges them, and makes them feel wonderful at the end of the day.. I don't think they'll mind two per pole 🙂

MemberOctober 1, 2011 at 8:29 am in reply to: Weightlifting/Strength Training outside of pole/aerialI kind of have the same question… I used to not do any upper body workouts at all because I do not want to get bulky at all. But now that I'm trying to get myself into more advanced moves (phoenix, iron x prep, some mounts), I feel like I have to lift weights in order to gain the strength to get into those moves. I was always anti-nautilus equipment.. but I think it's almost necessary in order to make it easier to get into the more advanced moves.. and for injury protection? Am I on the right track?
I've recently been doing nautius shoulder and chest presses..

I would definately go for the workshop… I always think I dunno when I'll get the opportunity again.. Too because I live in a place where workshops are few and far in between. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

yay! Another dancer! I do like the artistic side of pole, and sometimes I feel we can get caught up in the sport of it rather than the creative free-flowing fluidity of it. I'm actually taking ballet now, and boy is it haaaarrrddd! just to hold the position!

I guess it depends on body type and how much one's comfortable revealing? I heard the mikeala shorts were more revealing so I didn't order them. The Lucia shorts looked really revealing also? I wonder if they're more or less revealing than the kiki shorts?
I have both the betty and kiki shorts, which I think are really flattering but at the same time I wish there was more coverage "down there." Esp when you're in a studio in the daytime w/ natural lighting coming in. But I'm semi ok w/ wearing them in a more dimly lit studio.

I think goals are good for certain things such as educational goals, life goals, etc. But for pole dancing, I do it for the sheer enjoyment of it. It's not a means to an end. I am very much there to be in the moment and I find it very liberating. I don't feel like I have to have any goals w/ pole dancing. In the sewing example, yes, you sew and the product of sewing is that you have your own clothes, but I would think you would enjoy the act of sewing by itself (that it's pure enjoyment), and having your own clothes is merely a by product of the enjoyment of sewing. That's how pole dancing is for me.
I would like to compete one day, but I'm not always thinking about that when I pole dance. Sometimes I have tiny goals though, for example, I keep a list of moves that I work on until I feel comfortable with them.
Also, I never get frustrated with pole dancing because it's just something that I purely enjoy (esp when I'm with other pole dancers 🙂 I love everything that I can do and look forward to accomplishing that which I can't do now.

Poletential Studio in Redwood City, CA have 20ft poles.. could ask them. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Wow awesome! Is this in LA? I'd love to get into something like that…

hmm.. what can I do to "season" the pole? And should I get a de-humidifier?
i think my skin tends to sweat.. but it still grips ok at the studio. But not at home https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Yes it's true, when I first stared climbing I was bruise city! Didn't know if I would keep having these bruises forever or not. Well, I still get them.. I'm not sure if it's smaller or the same as before, or if I'm just ignoring them now lol.
I do notice however, that when I'm tired, I get more bruises very quickly! I think because the weight distribution is improper and I'm collapsing my body. But when I'm really energetic and my body is really warm and my body is not afraid to touch the pole… sometimes I'll be poling forever and doing some advance moves and won't get a SINGLE bruise! So it depends on how tired I am.. the weight distribution.. and yes, you'll learn to distribute the weight to your thighs, knees, calf, etc. So there's less bruising on the top of the foot. ex: when ur upper body gets stronger, it's very easy to just place your legs where you want.

That's weird because as a floor dancer (going out to dance and freestyling), I dance faster… I like dancing to some house music, some pop. But when I'm on the pole, I don't feel like I can do that given the strength it requires, so i'm a much slower dancer on the pole (Blue Foundation, Morcheeba, Sia, Motorcycle)

I only found one video online where the prezel is done on a stationary pole.. and it looks like you have to dismount really quickly?? Otherwise, would you get hurt somehow w/ the twist? @chemgoddess, would you be able to send me the link of sarah teaching it on a static pole?
And w/ the rockstar spin, you have to hook your foot up much higher than you do w/ a regular fireman spin? That's what it looks like online..

It would be good if you were able to try some of poles out.. if there were a studio. Chrome is definately the slipperiest for me.. I can't hold on to it for the life of me and can't even do a simple spin on a 50mm. I love lil mynx, which is what my studio has, and I grip really well on it.. my palms and legs just stick to it just so right… I'm looking for/buying a 45mm rotator one very soon! yay!
-
Tall pole! But yes, depends on what you'd mostly be doing on it.. inverts n' tricks or lots of spinning on your toes (hardwood floor). But I would definately go for the tall pole hands down.. omg I would kill for an 11ft pole! lol..

Cool! Never done a skype pole jam before 🙂
-
@J9, what didn't u like about it? Was it the finish? Someone was telling me they thought the finish was too matte
-
I was having the same issue you were having. After debating back and forth, I decided to go with a 45mm even though my studio uses the 50mm. I figured I would practice in class w/ a 50mm and also go to their open poles.. and that would be enough of 50mm practicing for me. And for more day to day practice, I practice on a 45mm at home in order to save my joints 🙂
-
Please let us know how it is.. I was interested in it but they said the finish was matte so consequently I became uninterested.. but would like to hear some feedback..
-
I don't really know what this is.. is it only for phone or can you view it on your pc also? I downloaded some pole pocket app a while back, but it only has a few spin moves on it and that's it. Is this something different that you pay for?

Fake Bake is a really awesome tanner, always comes out with a really lovely brown almost olive color. But have any of your noticed they changed their formula like in the past 6-8 months? It used to be thick and dark, dark brown and went on really smoothly and would stick to my skin. But now it's all watery, doesn't stick to my skin, and is ORANGE! Just wondering if any of you noticed a reformulation?
