This too was my Nemisis. It hurt! I get into superman by side climbing. Then I get into a Jasmine prep hold- my upper leg is bent at the knee in front of the pole gripping (knee hang) and my lower leg is extended straight toward the ceiling behind the pole. Next I re-grip my hands wide in a push pull grip. I straddle as wide as I can bringing my upper leg toward my face/shoulder and when I’m at my deepest stretch, the pole is now on my bum cheek, I flip and let my hips slide a bit toward the ground and Voila’ Superman!
Two main tips that worked for me was a deep V straddle and dropping my hips. I had to concentrate on letting my hips slide down otherwise, I would get stuck and my bum would be In the air and my head would be heading toward the ground and I could not arch my back.
Now getting out of superman?! I am working on two options. With a bent upper arm I can either pull back toward the pole into Figure Head or fold forward down toward the ground into pike, from pike Gemini or Scorpio. For this one you must be high enough on the pole to have room to bend forward.
Figure head hurts much less than folding into pike hold. I have gotten over the pain of superman and this hold over reminds me how much superman use to hurt.I have tried to get into superman from a basic invert into knee hang but I invert on my right side and my superman is held with my right arm up. I invert on my right side but use my left foot for climb. This happens to me with lots of tricks. I try to work both side in my pole practice, however I use the side that feels most natural for me.

Hi Polers,
I started Poling at the age of 35, I’m now 42. I have no dance or gymnastic background.like many Mature Polers I have become stronger and more flexible through Poling. There are some advanced holds I cannot do, I don’t know if I ever will be able to, however with no experience as mentioned before, I’m very proud of my accomplishments. Yes, be smart. Know your body. I have lots of friends who I have met through pole who are over 40. We are “Pole Pumas”. You can find us on Facebook.
