Welcome Kali21, love your last comment about "a bit of wiggle and glitter!" 😀

BassAddict,
I agree with tallicahild, I injured my rhomboids and the pain you're describing sounds similar to my experience. I went in and the Dr claimed it was a strain and gave me naproxen and muscle relaxers. The naproxen seemed to help more then motrin but I didn't try the flexiril because I'm not a fan of the feeling muscle relaxers give me. I took some time of inverting and still have to be very careful not to push myself. I've reinjured it just because of one sloppy, tired invert on a few occasions. Give yourself a chance to recover and also lying on a tennis ball and massage helped me when the pain was worst.
Good luck! Feel better!

As digit said, I damaged the drywall on my ceiling because I over tightened my pole the first time I put it up. However, I have it in the same spot, properly adjusted and have seen no further issues. Just be sure you follow directions and don't over-tighten it. As for the floor, I have carpet (UGLY carpet lol) so haven't had any issues with that.

MemberJuly 18, 2012 at 9:32 am in reply to: Ever felt like your body’s just not built for pole?!I have read most but not all of the replies here, mostly because through my own experience with sweaty hands I've found most of the tips here or elsewhere myself already. However, in response to your initial post, I just wanted to answer your question. I don't have any other tips than those already suggested but I would like to offer some empathy and support! I have definitely had days, especially in the beginning, where I thought that my sweaty hands were just not worthy of pole. I felt physically defective watching girls in introductory classes at my old studio spinning around gleefully as I slimed my way down the pole and plopped to the floor. Though I've poled for about a year now, I still have those days but thenI think back to my earlier practices and how I thought inversions, leg hangs, butterflies, etc were just impossible for me and here I am, doing all those things with ease. When I get discouraged, I remember being the only girl in class who could barely do a fireman spin, and smile. I've been trying for some time to get the ayesha, which as you probably know is scary because you have to rely on those sweaty hands of yours completely to hold your body up, and I feel frustrated but hopeful. I have gloves too, and I've been trying those and if that's what it takes so be it. While some people have naturally better grip without all the hassles and aids and quests polers like us go through, it doesn't matter because we do the best we can for us!
Sorry if that was long, but I just really related to your initial post and hoped to give a little encouragement to us both. -
Sounds fun! Great idea 😀

I think that there are just too many of these "quick fix" "golden ticket" gimmicks out now-a-days. The amount of stress we place on ourselves to acheive this "perfect" standard of health and beauty is an issue in itself. The stress alone to acheive something that impossible shaves years off our lives. And to be honest, if there was a way to have the "perfect" body, I think there would be a lot more of us living to our 100's. No one has those kinds of answers and everything that says it does is just speculation or advertising. That's not to say we should be unaware of our bodies but instead focus on doing the things that make us feel good, happy, and strong.

I am a full time student studying Middle Grades Education with a focus in Language Arts. I have about two semesters left to get my licensure and I'm SO ready to be out of the classroom and teaching in my own. I also have worked at pet resorts for many years, right now only when I have time, and hope to own my own Pet Resort/Rescue Facility someday. I would also love to dabble in wildlife rehabilitation in some shape at some point.

Thanks for mentioning this and I'd love to hear reviews if you decide to try the DVDs, I'm considering it now too!

Thanks everyone, these are all great suggestions! I think all of your ideas will make for one whole lower body workout! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I have also hear good things about Arnica, but an at home remedy that seems to work great for me is actually Preparation H. It constricts the blood vessels and reduces the appearance. I put it on before bed because it's a greasy texture, for small, deep bruises I cover it with a bandaid.

This has happened to me before too, probably most of us have shared this same experience. It's really frustrating, I know! I've actually lost my Superman as well before and recently found myself struggling with my shoulder mount form, which used to be fine with. I think Lina is right, just practice it and your muscles will remember. But trust me, I understand how frustrating it is. My SM issue is a current problem and practically had me in tears the other night. Like Lyme, I also think it's ok to put something off for a little while and come back to it when you're in a better state of mind.

I live in NC and it is insanely humid, you will break a sweat walking to your car. Today we are expecting a high of 105! I've been kind of discouraged, for instance yesterday, because my practices have me slipping on even the most familiar moves. On top of that, I already have struggled with excessively sweaty palms. The best things I can suggest are cleaning the pole with a distilled white vinegar/97% rubbing alcohol. Then I spray my palms with this same solution, pat dry, and apply Dryhands grip aid. Dryhands has been my best friend on those really sweaty days! I sometimes put a small dot on my palms and wipe my pole with it, it leaves a white residue but it cleans off and it's really helpful to me when I have to grab low (for instance an Extended Butterfly.) Also, when I apply Dryhands I make sure to get it between my fingers, that has made a big difference in keeping the sweat at bay. And like JeHanne said poling later in the day can be helpful on hot days. The only thing I haven't really been able to overcome is, like Steffie said, any armpit grip on those really humid days.
Sorry this is a long response, but I have come up with an elaborate routine for this because it gets so hot here and I already have grip issues.
Hope this is helpful! -
Oh man! As a former Sephora consultant, I'm already a product junky! Now you ladies have me thinking about Latisse! I read that the reason it works so well is because it wasn't originally meant for lash growth. Latisse has an ingredient that a glaucoma medication has which caused patients to notice major lash growth.
Lyme, let me know about the loreal product! If it's successful, my husband will thank you hehehe

Great idea, I don't have a website but I sure am enjoying all of yours 😀

Happy for you that it's not MS, I hope that they find a quick and easy solution to your pain!

Polergirl, thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I think that working on combos is a really good idea for me as well as many of the new moves you have suggested. I've been apprehensive with a lot of the knee hold work because well, frankly, it hurts! LOL! But I guess it's time to earn some new battle wounds!
ThatGirl99, thanks also for your reccomendations. Luckily, my husband is finally home from a year long tour overseas and can help me with spotting! I'm grateful because that has definitely been a major setback for a lot of moves 😀

I completely admire you for this! Pole can be healing for a sexual assault survivor, reconnecting with your body and sensuality is key to recovery and finding yourself again. Thank you for this idea, I will take and pass your survey along 🙂

Flexx, WOW! I'm no reliable source since I'm not an instructor or anything but just for the sake of my two cents I'd have to say I think you are justified in feeling a bit irritated by her behavior. In my opinion, I think it would have been a lot less of an issue had she not been so tasteless in her approach. She could have come in politely and asked for help or suggestions with her Choreography rather than walking in with what sounds like an attitude of entitlement to your steps. I imagine you would have taken much more to that than her blatantly coming in to "steal" your hard work! I think whether she's two blocks, miles or states over it's still disrespectful to take advantage of someone else's efforts and creativity! Not sure how you handled it but I know I would have expressed that I didn't appreciate her intentions and would rather help her create her own choreography or nothing at all. Either way, I don't think you were the one being rude at all!
