I don’t have any advice. As I’m no where close to competing… But I watched you’re video https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/531b9627-0ca0-4a30-910f-44f30a9aa0eb
And it was really fantastic. Seriously. I’m happy to see you around here again 🙂

Congrats on being a fighter and a survivor.

I’m horrified/disgusted that you were treated that way…
There you are, trying to better yourself and get stronger and learn some new things… And that’s just not ok. That’s just not a way to speak to someone. Anyone. Period.

I don’t have any advice other than to keep your head up, they do not deserve your business!

sorry the link didnt work: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/unreasonablefaith/2009/08/wet-monkey-theory/

The point of me sharing that link, is just to say sometimes people have just been conditioned to feel a certain way… Maybe he wasn’t getting sprayed like the monkeys.. but maybe he’s see friend’s/parent’s/etc. marriages dissolve over difference in hobbies, or the woman finding a new passion. Maybe he doesn’t know why, but its triggering a response!

ANyway, Im sorry I’m so foggy. Like i said, I’m full of boogers 😛

I think the most important thing is to communicate with him and find out WHY he feels this way.

He may say something that really surprises you (he feels unimportant to you, he feels like you ditch him for pole, maybe he feels like you never supported his passion?) or he may not even know why he feels this way… but this might surprise him, and make him consider how he feels. Have you ever heard of the Wet Monkey Theory. Sometimes people (or monkeys) act a certain way, without even knowing why. (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/unreasonablefaith/2009/08/wet-monkey-theory/)

But the point is… he may not be a bad guy, he may have very valid reasons for feeling this way…

Usually when someone (provided they are someone I respect and I feel like are a rational and nice person) has issue with something I do, usually there is a middle ground… Usually each person is right and wrong to a degree.

Yes, he should probably support you more… but maybe you should plan pole free days, where you don’t talk about pole, or check pole videos, and just do something you both enjoy and reconnect.

It’s very easy for us to sit in judgement of him not knowing his side of the story… but I think if you came on and were saying “All my BF does is Golf and I feel like he never pays any attention to me… I HATE GOLF!” We’d all be saying how he needs to make time for you. Ya know?

yeah, I’d be interested in the dimensions… If you ever get around to measuring it let me know!

The one I returned said “Long at 45 Inches Flat = 90 Inches in Circumference”.

Maybe it needed to be broken in or something…. But I honestly had my husband try and help me. We hooked it on my left leg and could barely make it to my right hip… and it seemed dangerous at that point.. like if it slipped or snapped someone would lose an eye… So I gave up and just returned it.

    Awesome split!

I got a ballet band and returned it…. are you talking about this one?

    http://www.amazon.com/SUPERIORBAND-Ballet-Stretch-Gymnastics-Training/dp/B00J1QXDQ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434985300&sr=8-1&keywords=ballet+band

    this stretch: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71fX3OcpAUL._SL1500_.jpg
just was not do able with the band for someone of my height.
Once hooked on one leg I couldn’t even pull it to my belly button. There is just noooooo way I could put it on my other leg.

If you have a longer one let me know!

Ok, here is this disclaimer: I’m sick and everything looks a little snotty and foggy to me this morning (talk about TMI :P) so if I missed something you already answered I’m sorry, I kind of skimmed the beginning stuff.

Because the way you’re describing doesn’t sound like he is annoyed because he thinks its dirty or “what will other people think”… it seems maybe he thinks you spend to much time with it? And maybe not enough with him?

Do you do anything else? I know thats like a silly way of saying it, but like do you have a job? or a something else you do, besides pole? (because jobs aren’t everything!) Sounds like you’re a handy person, staining a deck and all…

Why I’m asking is… there are only a few times my husband seemed annoyed by my poling…
and usually it’s when I’m not working a lot, spending too much money poling, and neglecting some duties because “sorry, I need to go to pole class”. Then more of the burden of life falls on him. This could absolutely make a man resent pole, in fact if it was anything he’d start to get annoyed! The times when I’m working more and helping out more around the house, and I say “honey I want to buy this super cool and expensive __(fill in the blank)__” He seems to be much more supportive.

And just so I don’t make my husband out to be such a meanie… He did basically let me take over the spare bedroom while he works out in the detached garage with no AC or heat and one tiny light. 🙂

And you know what? When he says to me he has to work out instead of helping me with something or even just watching a show with me, I get kind of pissy about it. 😛

    Ok well I created a Facebook group….
Made a cover photo in like 10 minutes and came up with a really broad name to include everyone. I’m goon to work on the art later.

Also, wishing the name was shorter. I need to work on it.

So far we are 8 members strong (including me). And we have one event planned, with 1 person attending (me, but I was going to it regardless).

As I was doing this I was kind of wishing there was a national/world organization (upa or any group like that) that would have local chapters that someone could run. Like the elks or lions club do… Or even like Girl Scouts. Just thinking about how much easier that would be for people to find and join.

Veena, It makes me sad to hear you say this… but honestly I feel a little relieved I’m not the only one. I feel like everyone else has tons of friends that share their interests.

I do have a fear I might make a group and be the only person in it, and I’ll feel like such a loser 😛

Where have you been looking for events? (Curious cause I might look too)

I think this all really started when I found this cool list of DIY shirts… and I was like “I wish I had friends to make these with” http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/30-diy-ways-to-get-your-t-shirts-ready-for-summer?utm_term=.sreORk556k#.gqVRx4QQr4

Thanks for making this beautiful place though. If I didn’t have this place I don’t know what I would do.

Shoog, you are really inspiring… I’m happy you’re sharing your story and your commitment to yourself. Listening to your body is so important.

It’s very easy to get caught up in this whirlwind pushing you to progress faster than you’re ready for. Sometimes a step back is exactly what you need for perspective.

I think anyone who has seen you dance would agree that you never need to invert, heck, you don’t even need a pole… You still bring this incredible movement!

Loving and healing vibes your way.

    Lucca, I love that combo!!!

I keep feeling like from that upright sailboat thing a nice combo would be to come in front of the pole and princess grip shoulder mount, but I’m not great at shoulder mounting with that grip… So aerially on spin isn’t spinning.

Ok I can’t say I feel 100% relaxed on it yet. I kind of need to learn to trust it more. I’m not sure if it’s just going to take time or if I should perm mount it… Or if that would make it worse! Ha. I’m just hesitant… I laid on it… Just verrrryyyyyy slowly.

But I also need to learn to tie the knots better. When I first hung it using the knots they had it touched the floor so I just loosened them and then re-tightened them and they kind of slipped on me…. But eventually got tight.

I have some playing around to do I think.

    Here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQ49P60/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

🙂 when I bought it I found a coupon code.

I chose the pink because if I use it outside on my stage pole black gets HOT! and I chose 4inches because I had exactly 8in clearance under the bed in the spare bedroom. HOWEVER Its slightly more than 4inches so it didn’t fit when folded. :/ I’d have to really compress it and force it and I didn’t want it to rip, so I didn’t bother.

I like it a lot though and I got rid of that bed anyway for more space. I’m not sad I didn’t get the 5inch one, it’s already huge and I’ve flopped onto it a bunch from pretty high and been just fine. 🙂

I also feel like in figurehead its not like you’re holding on by your knee like in a Gemini…. It’s a push/pull thing.

For me I feel like my knee isn’t really responsible for gripping in a figurehead like it would be in a Cupid… Don’t get me wrong, it plays a part but I feel like the back of my thigh plays a big part. The more skin contact the better. Including a pic so you can see how much thigh and booty I have on the pole…

Eeeek! It’s on the truck for delivery! Hopefully its feels and looks as nice as it seems. 🙂

I’m going for a pole lesson later today, so hopefully I can find some time to test it out.

Thanks that was super helpful, and kind of looks like some things I’ve seen on the internet for like mounting oven hoods and other heavy things.

So I ordered a hammock, and I’m just going to start with it on the pull up bar and see if 1. I use it and 2. what I use it for (so how much space would I need)… But if the door space isnt sufficient and i want to actually mount it I’m either going to try and do some surgery in the attic (when its not like 120F up there) or try something like this… but on sheetrock, with a white board that may or may not have a nice trim around the edge 🙂
