I’m by no means an expert, and I just started trying this move seriously yesterday… I had some success…
I posted a pic in my Pole Progress album( https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/537f9aa7-65b8-4d88-a0c4-20d10a9aa0eb ), but I’m still way more vertical then I would like… and my knee pit grip in that pic wasn’t great… but what I found is a MUST is removing my inside arm first… that way you can establish contact in your armpit before removing the outside arm.
Veena has some great tips in her lessons about doing it from the floor too.
Hope that helps some.

It’s where the Schtick a Pole in it event happens. Anyway it’s worth looking into.

I go to class on Wed. It works best for me because I don’t work on Wed and the studio isn’t close and there is a ton of traffic… So I need to make sure I leave early, which I can’t always do from work (and from work it is further than my house).
My instructor says Tuesdays are her busiest day. I am not sure why.
Hope that helps

I actually had my first experience with a stainless steel pole today…. My very own Star Stand Alone.
I’m still planning on getting a different/spinny pole to replace my chrome xpole sport…. But now I have to say I’m pretty torn. I thought the stainless was very grippy with my skin. It may have been well broken in (it was used) But even the extension (which was brand new) I found to be quite grippy!

Thanks Veena. That’s good to know. Like I said I’m not looking to compete but somehow I just felt like I should muscle through it or something… Like it’ll somehow make me stronger/better. Sometimes I make things more difficult for myself for no reason!
Thanks!

Really great price***not ready great prince! sorry I’m on my phone at work 😛

I’m no expert but I live in NJ, so not far, and I also have dryer skin.
I’ve only used chrome and TG… My chrome pole is pretty slick in the winter and that’s probably when my body is the driest. Now that it’s warming up I’m liking it more… But I still have my eye on a TG pole.
My studio had one and it’s certainly grippy. It tugs my skin a bit, but you get used to it.
I got my x-pole sport used for a ready great prince, I just wanted to make sure I could commit before spending the big bucks… But now I’m wanting something that spins so I’m hoping to be getting something new in the near future… And I was def thinking TG…
However part of me worries about relying on a grippier finish. I don’t have my goals set on performing… And I’m mostly a home poler… But I do want to attend workshops or classes and I worry I won’t be able to do anything. So
I’m not sure, but I’m leaning towards TG. -
I think “I’m going to the gym” or “I’m going to workout” are both very good and truthful answers 🙂

Words like swing and kick imply momentum… But I think they just was the outside leg guiding the student to the pole. I think it can’t hurt to ask for clarifications, and if actually kicking is not within their guidelines maybe they can tell all teachers for clarity/uniformity…
I hate all that kind of stuff because yes, most times it’s easier just to keep your mouth shut and let everyone teach the way they feel comfortable… But sometimes it’s good to get things off your chest.

I have had similar situations at work… luckily none of them are harmful or dangerous… but I’m a dentist and I work in a few offices.. one of them, (the one I’ll gradually transition into full time as my patients increase) is perfect. At another office we use materials or labs I just don’t love. I would never do anything but my best work, but sometimes I want to do things MY WAY and I hate having to work within someone else’s rules. It’s very hard when you’ve been trained to do something one way, and someone is making you do it another.
My patients are laying down with their mouths open helpless trusting me so I would NEVER do anything I didn’t believe was the right thing… but it’s a bit different because your students are in control of their own bodies…
I’m not sure what you can do. It seems like you’re trying to educate your students on what is right, but still half teaching the kick. At least your giving them the knowledge that not kicking is better.
I’d say talk to the person in charge… but my feeling is this the same person told you that your non-twisted grip ironX was dangerous.
I’m sure someone here who is more experienced with pole studios and what it means to be an instructor can give you better advice. I just wanted to say a big loud “Ugh!” for you.

For the record I’m not upset, just excited…
I don’t want to buy anything until I know what all my options are… so I guess it’s just wait and see!
I’m curious to see the powder coated and silicon…Are there any different features to the 2014 models, or essentially are they the same?

Veena, thats right! I actually have planned a pole jam on SV chat… I was just using the term “skype” like you’d call all tissues Kleenex 🙂 Sometimes I even call facetime Skype. I’m sure I embarrass the hell out of my kid.
-
Thanks BonnieAndClyde Thats such a great way to look at it. So sweet. 🙂
I have a Kinect, but its in my family room and my pole is set up in my spare bedroom… But if I end up ever moving it downstairs or getting a stage I’ll be up for some Kinect’ing 🙂

No advice here… But I missed you around here! Sounds like you’re on the mend though. Hope to be seeing more of you.

I’m happy to skype sometime and inspire each other… Sounds fun!
I also have Veena’s lessons… I honestly can’t speak highly enough of them in terms of my progression. It’s really easy to go between lessons and move on to other related moves. 🙂
She is like my skype buddy and she doesn’t even know it (though she does wave to me in every video, hehe) -
I’d be up for that for sure, but I think you guys are probably miles (and levels) ahead of me. But I’m up for anything!

Thanks CJ… Though at this point maybe I should move to Orlando! The weather is certainly better. And honestly, the best mani pedi I ever had was at the Ritz in Orlando! 🙂
I am really happy I have SV. This place and the lessons are priceless. I do want a “Pole Buddy” nearby but I’m also happy to have pole buddies a all over the world.

I know exactly how you guys feel… Not just with pole friends… In general really.
I basically lost touch with most people while I was in dental school in NYC… 4 years of extreme studying and pressure. Most people moved away and got married etc. So now I’m back in NJ with very little to do with my spare time. I have a wonderful husband and a kid but I still need girlfriends, ya know? My dental school friends rocked.. but they all dispersed after school too. We still keep in touch and meet up, it’s just difficult. Sometimes you just need someone you can call to come over for a bit and grab a mani pedi with!
Most people here are much older. It’s an expensive area with very little to do in terms of a social scene, so that’s understandable. But it’s where my husband grew up, 20 min from where I grew up, and where we want to raise our son.
Actually that feeling lead me to pole! It was a cross between “I need a hobby” and “I need to get out and make friends”
That’s why I decided to try pole a few months ago. Closest 45+ min away. It’s actually a home studio with 2 poles. Well, I fell in love with pole. But so far I have had zero luck with pole friends. Usually it’s just me in class (which I do love). It’s crazy how NJ is so populated but the pole community seems existent!
I actually joined MeetUp.com and joined some girls social clubs… and went to a few happy hours. The events are usually centered on eating fried food and drinking beer AND ALL I WANT TO DO IS POLE. I’ve also been comparing everyone to my NYC friends which just isn’t fair… I need to let that go a little.
Soooo I actually am hosting my own MeetUp at the place I pole this Friday!!!!. But because there are only 2 poles there it can only be me +3. So far it’s just been a huge headache because girls sign up then don’t pay and become unresponsive…. And there is a wait list, so if you’re just going to hold a spot and cancel last min it’s not fair! Plus the instructor worked out her rate for 4 people… Not 2 or 3. I learned lessons on how to organize it better next time so they pay first. But I was just testing the waters to see in there was interest…. And there is.
It’s just going to be a beginner/intro workshop so I might be a little bored but these girls are from my area so maybe one will fall in love. Buy a pole… And we can practice together!
I’m sneaky, huh?

No problem!
And happy birthday! I always tend to feel really old and sluggish around my birthday. But thankfully it always passes.

I agree with runemist34… When I’m busy I have more energy (in general, I still love a good nap ever now and again)….
But unlike runemist34 when I’m not active allllll I do is eat… And eat unhealthy… Which sends me into a food coma. :/ That’s just me though.

Further up in this thread the rep said “New product will be rolling out May 1st!”
Maybe that was just optimistic… I’m just curious to see whats new!

On to the original topic… It’s after may 1st!
Any one else been checking to see what X-pole is rolling out? 🙂 I’m impatient!!!
