This is an importance move to work on. We will be using our crucifix as a way to transition in and out of moves. Don't worry about releasing the hands at first, this takes time.

Jamof3 - I know this doesn't sound like anything to complain about, but my thighs are kind of thin...they don't touch on inside when I stand with my feet together, and I'm having a really hard time gripping the pole with my thighs after I straighten my front leg. Does it sound like my legs just aren't strong enough or I'm angling them wrong?

StudioVeena - Some people have that kind of anatomy. Mine don't really touch either. One thing to remember your trying to cross the free leg across the pole just like you would when sitting with your legs crossed in a chair all lady like. lol It does take time to build up some strength for this. Also remember you need to be really warm for things like pole sits and the Crucifix if your legs are too cold and the pole is cold you will slip. :)

RoriGrace - How long does it usually take for a beginner to be able to release the hand grip? I've been practicing this for a while and everything looks and feels right, I guess I just don't have the strength yet to hold on with just my legs...

Belugui - I have a stainless steal silver pole.. does it make a lot of a difference to use a coated pole like the TG or a brass pole? I am having a hard time with inversions, slowly sliding down, and I am wondering if the pole has anything to do with it. Thanks!

StudioVeena - Is your pole Stainless steel or Chrome? If you have an X pole and it's silver it is chrome coated not Stainless steel. My body chemistry doesn't work well with Stainless steel. I slip and slide :( So for some yes this can be the issue. I prefer Chrome, TG or Brass. The only thing that worked for me on Stainless steel poles was so be almost sweaty. With all poles you will get the best grip when you are warm and your pole is warm as well. :)

Belugui - thanks veena, it is a lilminx, so i believe stainelss steal. I have notieced that if i do a whole work out before poling, then i get some grip, like u said sweatty! Im gonna get an x pole, i feel this one is holding me back.
I am a fitness professional and I have to say you are the best pole fitness instructor i have ever come across. Your techniques and intruction methods are very proffesional, clear and safe. Keep it up! :)

StudioVeena - Yes I would be SS then. My first pole was SS and I hated it. It was like a dream when I switched to the xpole! Thank you so much for your kind words, means a lot coming from a fellow fitness pro!

kiki Q - luv the lessons...trying to get the pole sit and crucifix can't seem to let go or i will slip..does that mean my legs need to be stronger and grip more? also do you personallyuse sports grip (like itac) on your legs or pole when you do these moves and/or more advanced moves? thanks so much for all your help!!

StudioVeena - I do not use grip aids. If your slipping it usually means the pole and your legs are not warm enough. Make sure you are fully warmed up before working on leg grips. Try using the warm up lesson or the pole strength routine to warm up :)

Jambi The Genie - Is it normal for the skin of your thighs and feet to feel irritated and/or like your kid brother's giving you an indian rug-burn when doing this move? If so, does it just take getting used to?
on Jan 8, 2012 -
1 people like thisStudioVeena - Yes Jambi, we call that pole burn :) your skin will get use to this and it will not always hurt :)

Tali Kat - We're being taught to climb in class at the moment, and the climb looks virtually identical to this move except we're being taught to grip the pole between the knees instead of how you're doing it between your thighs. We've only just started but I am having a lot of trouble with the knee version (though I havent got my pole up to try yours yet) but do you think the knee version is a more advanced move??
on Feb 27, 2012 -
StudioVeena - I'm not sure I understand the question. I teach you to use in between the knees as well. Are they only using knees and not holding with the thigh too for the crusifix? For a climb the focus IS in between the knees, you don't use your thighs to climb, this is the crusifix lesson so you do use the thigh to hold the position. Do that make sense? Thighs for Crusifix, no thighs for Climbing....unless your stopping to rest :)
on Feb 27, 2012 -
Tali Kat - Yeah I checked your climb lesson, but our climb looks more like your crusifix. So like, pretend you got up into crusifix position with your legs, then instead of holding your arms out at your side, you just climb up into another higher crusifix. That's our climb, if that makes sense :P I was just curious cos despite the fact our thighs are touching the pole, our teacher didn't mention gripping between the thighs at all, she was saying the grip should be between the knees. I was only asking cos I am having a lot of trouble getting my knees to squeeze in tight enough. I guess I probably just don't have the strength yet..
on Feb 27, 2012 -
StudioVeena - sounds like it's just a different style of climb, but if your thighs are in contact with the pole then I would use them! :)

SexyRockStarsWife - wow these are tough! really have to squeeze with my legs and thighs.

Cliche - This was way easy, first time I've done it. The modifies version shown at the end was easier that the regular, I guess because more poc.

ibelieveinunicorns77 - the crucifix hold or pose was super easy for me too,it was the first actual pose/hold i could accomplish! yay me!!!:)

Yanille - Some times I can't get the move or trick ill try it again in a couple days and I seem to get it..
on Mar 1, 2013 -
Yanille - I do have a weird question lol. Does cold weather effect your pole tricks like crucifix and pole sit cuz even that I used a warm up since its in the 50's today for some reason I've tried to warm my pole but still seems chilly . Can cold weather effect your tricks and cause u to slide down?
on Mar 2, 2013 -
Yanille - It's rarely cold in Miami so today is first time I practice in cold weather ?
on Mar 2, 2013 -
StudioVeena - YES cold weather will affect your grip! :) The basic warm up is a good one to use when the weather is cold, I designed it to warm you AND the pole.

1 people like thisvillainvixen - hi veena! i have a question. ive been at this move for weeks now and my legs are gripping pretty well. the problem im having is my upper body. the moment i let go ill fall backward. im not sure if my leg placement and grip is why im falling back or if im not placing my upper body correctly. how can i imprive this?
on Mar 4, 2013 -
StudioVeena - Well sometimes things like boobs fat in the way of holding without hands. You could try bringing the upper body around to the front of the pole, as I to wrap the upper body around the pole.
on Mar 4, 2013 -
villainvixen - lol! these do get in the way, and not just for pole sadly. I'll give the wrap around a try. Thank you :)
