Has anyone else had a breast lumpectomy?  And if so how long was it before you could return to pole dance?  Apparently my oncologist has never operated on a pole dancer before because he couldn't give me a definite timeline for when it's safe to pole again.  I know it will involve waiting 4 to 8 weeks and I know how to take it easy when I start poling again.  But having a more definite timeline would give me a positive goal to look forward to rather than sitting around feeling sorry for myself while I can't pole dance.

I had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed and a few weeks later I had a mastectomy. I didn’t go back to poling for a few years. For a long time I had lost the range of motion. If you have problems with your ROM ask for a referral to a physical therapist.
I had to go trough a lot of treatments do was out of exercise for quit some time.

Had three breast surgeries this past year, Nov, Dec and Jan 2013 with axcillary nodes removed.  Finished radiation end of March 2013 and started back six weeks ago.  Was a beginner poler  and lifted weights before diagnosis and had to quit due to surgeries and treatment.  Haven't been back to weights, just running, Zumba and poling seems to be going okay.  At times the area gets sore but I take care not to over do it.  Just make sure that you are healing well and take care of arm affected by surgery.  I find the soreness around my scar tissue and the numbness in back of my arm and underarm more bothersome than anything.  But I am getting stronger and fixing to start inversion classes.  When my doctor saw my pole bruises I think he kind of flipped out until I told him what they were from.  He got a kick out of it. Good luck!!

    Hi PoleKitten,

I had a lumpectomy (a single lump removed, no lymph nodes) this past February. It was pretty high up, at the top and side of my right breast, close to my right armpit. I'd recently started poling at the time and had gotten a right-sided basic invert (right leg inside?) just weeks before. I took four weeks off completely, and within six weeks or so I was back to inverting, cautiously. 🙂 I was lucky in that I didn't have any muscle tissue cut. Good luck to you…this "not knowing" time can be scary. 🙂

I'm so happy to see these posts I just opened a small studio in Lake Havasu City Az. and 3 girlfriends are in various stages of recovery, but want to try pole. I was not sure what to say to them about class, but it sounds like a basic beginner class will work out for them ! Congratulations to you all and thank you again !

I am so happy to find this thread here… I don’t even know what stage it is yet, but have an MRI and I think seeing a surgeon or specialist this coming Wednesday. I am scared, but I am being brave, I am sure you all know what I am talking about. I still just don’t even know what to expect. Just trying to learn what I can at this point.
