pole and dreadlocks?

hi everyone! [www.studioveena.com]
so my beautiful friend, Daizie has these amazing dreads. she did them herself over 3 months, while recovering from a car accident. we talked about it a while ago, and she said she would dread my hair for me (and worked out a price and trade). but i'm wondering, do you think it would mess up my pole image? can dreads be sexy? what if i put a little pink bow in them? just looking for opinions...
i will post some pics in my photos here.

I say, yes! I think if its a hair style you love then you'll make it sexy! I personally think dreads on a pole dancer would be hot. [www.studioveena.com] friends hair looks sweet btw

Here is Electra Vallens who was wearing them. I commented on how cool they are and she said she made them. Now these are much bigger and colored, but she posted on her site how to make your own plus they are temporary!

Hi Tarah,
I [www.studioveena.com] I think they are outrageously sexy and I happen to sport some myself. I have had dreaded hair off an on for 12 years. I have very thick ethnic hair so they take easily to dreads.
Do it!!!
I enjoy Lush USA shampoo bars but when I don't have any of those I use any regular shampoo. My favorite Dread specific products are from DreadHead HQ.
I like the Dread Butta, Dread Wax and the DreadLicious sprays.
You will find what combination of products and maintenance schedule that work the best for you. Dreads are not for everyone but I adore them.
Also when you have dreads you can incorporate dread extensions too and go from big hair to 'I need a neck brace' to hold my head up hair. ;)

I had sexy dreads :) most people liked them, but at least once a week someone would have something negative to say to me about them. also, strangers will just grab a lock and examine- like its ok to touch someone they dont even know. People asked me for drugs too- which is super annoying. they are beautiful and rebellious- also, sometimes heavy

I'm a lush fanatic!!! I have to order mine online though. The 'Seanik' is soooooo nice on dreads! I get a lot of compliments that my hair smells great when I use that bar.
I've had a lot of people grab my hair... don't get that but they are not threatening... just really enthusiastic.
I love to wear big hair accessories, flowers, bows, rhinestone accessories... Dreads are HOT!

I think they can be really cool. In fact, there are little eclectic shops around here that sell beads specifically for dreads, and they are super cool. Sometimes I wish I had dreads just for the beads! I've seen many girls with them and they look gorgeous with them.

Do it!! Personally, if I had a teacher with dreads I would be even more drawn to the class.[www.studioveena.com] wait to see photos.

I say go for it. I used to have a whole head of them (they were a bit bigger and not as uniform) but when I became a professional LMT I had to cut them out (as most hospitals/clincs weren't too keen on them) Are these the permanent dreads? Or the twisties similar to Angelina Jolie's in Gone in 60 seconds? My permanent ones HAD to be cut out and it took a long time for my hair to grow back. I LOVE the look of them though. I think they can be very sexy. I wish I could put mine back in

Tarah if it is right for you that will resonate from you. I get far more compliments with dreads than I ever did when I would spend hours and hours straightening my hair. I accepted my natural texture and embraced what I consider beautiful, I feel it shows and others are drawn to that confidence and authenticity.
If you try it and it isn't right for you, that's totally okay. At least allow yourself the experience just to follow through on your curiousty.

thanks everyone! now i just hope my friend calls me back!
@Sasha - i had dreads before, when i lived at a hotsprings community in california where i was a massage therapist, and it was fine. but when i moved to florida to be closer to my grandparents, i had to cut them off. i hated having short hair! so if my friend comes through on this, they will be permanent, and i will never leave maui, LOL.

Well out of the pole dancers that I know- the one who actually inspired me to not only have dreads but she started my interest in poling is Jillian Aka Squeakmachine or Squeak.

Although her dreads are synthetic I do beleive that she is once again another great example that you can look sexy and amazing while being a "dreaded" pole dancer. :)

Actually Olivia that is a misconception that seems to be carried around by many many people. Usually the people who have bacteria and mold issues have .... other issues as well and if you observe the situation you will realize that their hair is not bathed but neither is their body or their clothes in most of the situations.
I'm actually a cleanfreak and have never had any bacteria or mold issues with my dreads when I had them- it is very easy to maintain your dreads and keep them "healthy". Heck mine wouldn't even smell and I would do a watered down shampoo around my roots every few days (like I would with normal hair actually. ) and a full rinse and cleaning of them at least once a week.

I think Dreads are soooo sexy on men and women both. They are against the rules at my work along with piercings and you have to keep tats covered. So much for Corporate America. I am sure there is a proper way to care for Dreads. I say go for it !!!

@JeHanne, I agree and you are fortunate to have worked at such a place. But that is not how it flies at my place of employment. I found Academia to be more open minded about appearance when I was in Research. I am hoping to be done working in this arena the next 2 years so I will not longer have to worry about it : )

I've had mine for about seven years now and no one has ever said anything to me about them as far as employment goes, but at the same time, I guess employers might fear retribution from telling me that my hair is unacceptable. It's neat and it's clean and I've never had a mold or bacteria issue, (and here's another but) but, I've never had to use any product to get my hair to loc.
Anyway, rock out with your locs out as Wild Lotus said! :)

thanks everyone! i value all of your opinions. unfortunately dreads have gotten a bad reputation due to peope not taking care of their hygeine. i have seen plenty of gross, dirty ones as well as beautiful, clean, well cared for ones. they do require care and time if you want them to look nice. as stormcat mentioned, people who have "dirty" dreads often have other cleanliness and hygeine issues. anyway, i plan on taking good care of mine...
