In late August (I say sept in the video, my bad) 2024, I fell for the first time in my career. I’m not new to pole dance by any means, but you guys know that. I have to admit, itโ€™s a bit ironic that I had my first fall almost to the date of when I discovered pole dance nearly 17 years ago. The universe has an interesting sense of humor I guess.

Iโ€™m discussing this topic in hopes of helping others come back from a fall that may have shattered their perception of their pole journey, or themselves.

Falling from the pole can be traumatizing. It can change your perception of your bodies capabilities, your skills, and it can be especially dramatic if it is your profession. To add insult to injury if it’s a skill you’ve done many times in fact, you can do it without thinking, it can really mess with your head.

Pole Dance RANT – How do I come back after a falling from a pole trick? can be watched below or go to Youtube. It’s episode 11.

It took me 8 months to work through everything, and eventually I decided to try again and this IG clip shares my experience of re-working the combo I fell from.

Below is a recap of the tools I talk about in the RANT

    • Target training my joints – Here’s the link for my upper body joint health routine. Here’s the link for my lower body joint health routine.
    • Journaling – Visualization – Mediation
    • Remove negative self talk – I have a rant about this you can watch it here .
    • Start low and go slow
    • Know you can – If you’re doubting yourself wait until you no longer hold that feeling.
    • Use a crash mat and spotter

Last remember it’s not normal or just part of pole dance to experience falling. If you’re falling, especially during tricks like inverts, that’s not ok. If this is the case, it’s time to re-think how your learning. Following my programs are a great way to learn how to safely practice pole. Also my Veena’s Classroom Invert Class is a wonderful way to work on inverts while also getting in touch with your mind and body. Here’s the link.

Thank you for this, came at a perfect time for where my head space is at. First of all I am glad you are ok! As a 59 year old pole dancer I really needed this. Not so much the “how to get over a fall” part, but what really struck me was the “you dont have to do it”. I find my self chasing all these moves that I feel I need to be able to do (partially my OCD personality). Some of them I am not even that fond off (or they scare me), but I feel I still need to learn them. This video has now given me the “it’s ok to skip that one”, it also has sort of opened my eyes to accepting my limitations (I am 59 after all). I dont have to show off my Ayesha, that most of my non pole friends don’t even understand how long and hard it was for me to learn, (and aren’t really that impressed!), but instead do my comfy moves, like cross leg release, or Jade, or a Marley, all moves my friends think are so beautiful and how insane it is that I can do them!

Thank you Veena, for the advice I feel I really needed TODAY! I am about to go dance and I am going to rethink what I call “trick day” a day I usually get anxious before I dance. I need to get back to why I am doing pole and why I love it so much. What a relief!!!

Thank you for sharing. Iโ€™m so glad you found my RANT helpful, even if it only helps one person, in my mind it was worth sharing ๐Ÿ’œ

I hope you have a wonderful and FUN pole session today ๐ŸŽŠ
