my problem with these videos is with how the dancers are portrayed. Both videos are obviously focused on the males pleasure and that is where I find myself conflicted.

I believe this is a female empowerement movement where women can reclaim their sexuality. I'm so tired of all the scenarios where women are objectified for their sexuality! This makes me feel like the recent rise in pole dancings popularity could go in the wrong direction if were not more direct about focusing the attention on where the true intent really lies…. on the womans strength, her pleasure, and her own decision to dance and provoke…her innate power. If we don't, I guess were all still stuck being some plastic emotionless barbie in a mans world with our only purpose being to give them pleasure…and you could kill me now.

I'm ready to see some videos with pole dancers where the woman is in a position of power and enjoying her sensuality/sexuality including all the emotions that go with it. I want to see a woman embrace all of the struggles and challenges of life and WIN using pole dancing as a way to affirm her strength and grace and vulnerabilty….

    Mainstream Media…..ughhhhhh!

Marianasw the pole dancer in this video was clearly in a position of power and enjoying her sensuality.

She did nothing dirty. She was only sexy and nothing wrong with that.. It fitted the video and song perfectly 🙂

I also don't think stuff like this will put pole dancing in the wrong direction since there are many directions you can go with pole dancing and all of them should be accepted. EVEN stripping. 🙂

It's great to see pole as more than just grinding. I hate anything that put pole in a bad light, but I think this wasn;t too bad at all. At least it shows the amount of skill needed.

Also, the dancers seem to be protrayed (spelling) as unobtainable goddesses, perfect girls he can veiw but never touch, rather can cheap dime a dozen girls.

Well the power position can be debated. If this is in an economic context and the dancing is being done at a strip club…where doea the power really lie? And yes, pole dancing can be taken in many many directions. I dont think any of tem arr bad. Im sorry if i came off as judgemental. I dont think they were doing anything dirty at all! You should see some of the moves i do in my classes 😉 Sometimes I have a hard time verbalizing what I mean…I guess what bothered me was the message that was sent when both women were objectified.  One is a hologram and the other has  her mouth covered and her unrealistically  long legs make her seem as if she were a futuristic fembot alien. If u notice both dancers have no expression at all on their faces, pretty much inhuman.  we have to have a sense of awareness as to how we’re portrayed because young boys and girls are watching these videos all over the world and its shaping their reality as we speak. Media Corporations are well aware of what theyre doing.  Mysogyny and sexism are everywhere and theyre their for a reason…and the consequences are quite sad.  I love pole dancing for the very reason that it puts my sexuality back into my hands….
I’ve been thinking about these thins a lot lately… I would love to hear your thoughts…How do u guys feel about women being objectified?

My thoughts on the women being objectified?  I don't have any issues with it.  We are gorgeous creatures and should be able to show that without being called sluts or tramps.  I have more of an issue with Victorias Secrets models who look anorexic and barely legal than I do with strong sexy women showing their glory.  But I do not want to sidetrack this thread.  Maybe you should start a new post?

to chemgoddess….I thought  was the only one who thought VS models were too skinny. I am pretty skinny .. always have been and hated it..always wanted curves didn't get any curves til my 30's.. While they are gorgeous I see they use the tricks I use being to skinny…crossing the legs to hide the bony legs. LOL I just wish young girls could grow up feeling beautiful no matter their physical appearance..I always told my sister I was going to write a book called skinny girls cry too…lol Oh the dressing rooms I have bawled in because everything fell off me. I don't want anybody to objectify my daughters or granddaughter on the other hand I have no problem with my husband doing it as long as I am the one holding the whip…hehehe

Tee hee!  I got the swimsuit catalog this year and there was a picture of one of the model with her hands over her head and she had no muscle tone what so ever.  It was kind of sick.  If you notice they always cut them off right at their thighs in the majority of the pictures.

    This grosses me out:

I think my arms are bigger than her thighs.
