How pole is helping me love myself

Jun 23, 2013
So like most other girls, I've always had an issue with the way I look and more importantly what I weigh. I've always hated seeing myself in pictures as the first thing I look at is "do I look fat in that picture??"

When I started pole at my gym (where the classes are actually included in the gym membership!) I was horrified with the idea of looking at myself in those mirrors wearing nothing more than a sports bra and mini shorts but quickly realised that no one else cared but me, everyone was more focused on nailing their next pole move to care about my cellulite or wobbly bits.

This was in October 2012. Fast forward to June 2013 and I've just posted a video to StudioVeena of me poling in nothing more than a bikini (and sports bra for inverts courtesy of my annoying size larger tits) and I've actually watched the video several times thinking I actually don't look all bad! This isn't because I've drastically changed the way I look in these months (although I am def seeing a bit more definition) but actually due to the fact that I am so much more comfortable and confident in my own skin these days. This is what pole dancing has given me. Rather than watching a video of myself now and pointing out the bad bits, I find myself sitting there feeling fucking proud of what my body is capable of and in some parts actually thinking I look really good in that angle!

So to sum up as I could go on and on about this, thank u Pole! And thank you StudioVeena for providing this platform for us to share our experiences, learn new moves or just encourage each other (which everyone here does so well!!). I feel like I've finally found my passion and it's amazing!!! Thank you!!!

BeckypolegirlThis totally sums up how I feel after finding pole too, love it :)

ClavrotI feel ya. I've been wearing a bikini round the house and stretching daily for the splits. Now I feel I love my legs more than anything. I'm proud of how strong they look and how flexible they are becoming. Just need to extend that positive feeling to my waist and I'm done :-)

SaphyreExactly! I remember feeling so mortified to be tiny shorts. Now I walk around in them and sometimes forget to put on "real" pants before I leave the house!

Runemist34I've been feeling this way, too! I'm into my third week of actually being really dedicated to pole, and I'm already seeing/feeling a difference :)

Isis KaneI was insecure about my body hair when I started poling-I actually thought other girls might stare and laugh at me behind my back. There are a lot of insecurities we have about our bodies that other people don't see. Now I feel a lot more confident :-)
