Webmaster -
Tina,

As businesses our most import function is to communicate with our customers, when communication fails our customers will take to other channels.

It seems to me that CaseyKill came here to vent when her attempts at communication failed. So essentially, she tried to "get her facts straight" however you didn't establish enough lines of communication or information dissemination to make sure that people are properly informed.

Is that a failure on your part? Of course not, it is a learning opportunity and a good business takes that as such, humbles themselves, makes right what they can, then promises to do better next time.

You are concerned about the damage done to your reputation by CaseyKill's rant? I think yours has probably done far more harm than Casey's.

Turns out my right shoulder was rotated inwards and downwards... putting unnecessary strain on those muscles. After one session it went and has stayed away....I'm going on 2mo. This therapy/technique is just magical... I really have no words other than it is THE answer to chronic pain and improper muscle functions!!

CapFeb - I'm all for studios sticking up for themselves in a miscommunication....but it doesn't even look like you read anything she posted. Casey said word for word "not blood related as you presumed". Secondly, I took this as the girl in question lying to Casey and Casey posting about that, not the girl convincing Tina to close it specifically to her. She wasn't "slandering" the studio in any way, if anyone was slandered it was the friend-relative in question. Thirdly, coming on here and explaining the situation should be what you're doing for your studio. But your post is so full of fallacies I'm actually more upset in the disrespect in your post than my initial reaction to opening post.

1) "I would be more than happy to let you enter."
2) "you are not the only person we had to turn away."
So are you inviting her or telling her no??

3) telling someone "to get there facts straight " only sabotages your own image. You basically just called her a liar when it had nothing to do with your studio.

I think we've leaned miscommunications are better handled in private.

I ma not sure whom your talking about I have no family in this industry never have ?So a little confused as to whom is telling you that .As far as the contest goes I would of been more than happy to have you enter ! (you look amazing in your pict so y wouldnt I want you to enter?) It doesn"t make sense as you get to know the pole world we are all very supportive and always welcome new talent )I am the one that planned this event .I originally (from the start before I even made flyers)asked Dantes if we were going to be letting the public enter THEY SAID NO (OWNER) the person you talked to was just the door person and didnt know what was going on so they just assumed it was open as it has been in previous contests. This time for some reason ( maybe someone got hurt ) I am not sure but they said no public .You are not the only one we had to turn away .I don't want you to be discouraged or frustrated I am not Dante's just doing what I am told .So its a little frustrating to me that you would go on a social media website and slander not only me but my studio :(.I wish you would of just called me as I am the one that set up the event) I posted that it wasn't open to the public and then got a bunch of mean emails .There was definately a miscommunication with the Person answering the phone at Dantes ( I thought I was doing you a favor so you didn't waste your time preparing and driving up to lake city )I am self taught as well so I think its great!!!.I have nothing against you (whomever is telling they are related to me is lying to you (sad))So maybe before you slander and talk down on studios you need to know the FACTS before you just assume .I know we are doing another contest soon and hopefully ( depending on the venue it will be open to the public )I am more than happy to let you know .Again I am sorry for the miscommunication .If it was my bar I would let anyone do it .Please stop blaming me You need to blame the bar if anyone at all. As I posted you were more than welcome to come and watch maybe then you would of seen that it was the owner of the bar and not me .Some people try to hurt others cause they have nothing better to do it very unfortunate .I am sorry this happened to you

Thanks

Tina

Thank you

I decided to give it a break since my last post and come back to it with a fresh head and got it! But for only about 2 seconds before I started to slide down. Here's my first half fluked attempt, I know my arms look really tense, always is when attempting something new! :)

http://www.studioveena.com/photos/next/51a100a8-4660-4959-b086-627e0ac37250

I found like @SharkyHill I had to really push into my pole with my foot and also getting the pole deep into the between the shoulder and neck and pushing against it!

I'm going to try another three times as it's not official until you can do it three times :P

I do my titanic on a 40mm pole and speaking it of the Titanic, the film is actually on tv!

My problem is flag lifting up, my body is too horizontal and I can't seem to move myself up vertically. I don't know if it's a strength issue or I'm a bit scared I might miss the pole and go straight over? :/ Does anyone know of any conditioning training to help lift the body vertical?

The flag alone, not so much, but as you move up into the invert, there is a motion where the pole really is smashing into the upper chest.
michaelaarghh -
I've never had this problem...I can't invert yet, but I can go into a flag and hold it for a few seconds...

Your boobs are supposed to be on the side of the pole, if you're not pushing your body out far enough then they will probably get in the way. I don't understand why some of you are getting marks on your chest? Unless I'm thinking of something completely different?

Hip-Hop Inspired Pole Classes in Raleigh, NC?

Dakota Fox - Welcome to the fun community that is only found within pole fitness! We'd love to have you come visit us at Aradia Fitness someday =)

...not sure if you are looking more for hip-hop/pole choreo classes or just pole lessons/sessions that focus mainly on hip-hop music & dance style in the presentation or style of teaching... at Aradia our instructors all have different movement styles & musical tastes (so you kinda get a little bit of everything!). The pole sessions themselves are geared more toward conditioning, technique and flow and then we have the additional classes which focus on choreo, movement & musicality (Polesque, Sultry Pole, etc).

However NC and the Raleigh area really is a great place to get into pole - I think all the studios here are great =) I'd definitely recommend checking out as many as you can - no two studios are ever alike and all have something unique & fun to offer! Plus you'll get to meet a variety of fun local polers!

Hope to see you soon =)

xoxo

StudioVeena -
Let be careful about assuming, it sounds like a miscommunication. Casy, I can totally see why preparing for a competition and then finding out you're unable to participate would be so upsetting. It would be upsetting regardless of why it happened, and I'm sure not really knowing why, makes it even harder.

Maybe something fishy was going on, or it could be a misunderstanding. I hope you'll share your routine with us Casy, and try not to take it personally. I've found it's best to not waste our time on things of this nature.

First MissPole, you stated that this Tina person (who i do not know) called the venue and asked THE VENUE if they wanted it open to the public. So you claim the VENUE chose not to have it open due to liability issues.

In your last paragraph, you tell CaseyKill to call the SPONSOR (who would be TINA) and ask, yet you stated that the Sponsor did not chose to close the competition.

Casey called the Venue, which in your story, was the one who closed the competition, why would they not tell her it was closed at the time of the call??

Plus, waivers dont take that long to draft, not to mention they dont hold up in court anyways.

On the other side, what is stopping someone from claiming they are from any other studio or that they are their own studio???

I just dont see the sense in the "rebuttal".

1) You can try "shocking" the pole. Put the tools into the holes then anchor one while you tap the other firmly in the direction it should turn with a rubber mallet. Don't tap it so hard that you bend the tools. Sometimes the swift motion will break them apart where steady pressure wouldn't.

2) If all else fails call X-Pole. They used to have a set of tools that greatly aided in taking your pole apart.

Misspolejava - Hey Casey, I am actually a student of Tina's at PF Nw and would like to clear something up.

When Tina first asked the venue about this years competition she specifically asked them if it they wanted it open to the public, or just represented by local studios. They said they did not want the liability of people "walking in" and potentially injuring themselves, since they do not have any disclaimers written up. I understand you are self taught and very comfortable with your level of skill and tricks, but someone could just walk in and "want to give it a shot", thus putting themselves in danger if they are not properly trained.

I think that there was a misunderstanding when "Tina's relative" (she has no blood relatives at the studio or in the industry) told you that it was open to the public, and I am very sorry that you took the time to prepare for a competition that is closed to studios :(

In the future I suggest going straight to the source and calling the sponsor of the event, not the venue. They are really only hosting it, PF Nw is making it run.

A lot of this felt exaggerated/overly slow to me and I can see that I STILL need to slow it down even more! So yeah, it's not good and it's not a proper freestyle/routine but it's on here as much for me as for anyone else (but as always, comments and advice are EXTREMELY welcome! Please help me, I need to improve!) I'm hoping to start recording my dance practices weekly so I can see my progress :)

Dwiizie -
I had some lingering side effects, but I think they had more to do with the onset of depression as I was quitting smoking rather than the lack of nicotine itself. I was soooo depressed, and of course you want a smoke when you're crying your eyes out and nothing makes it better and you're just getting fatter and who cares that you smoke anyway because all your friends smoke you are suddenly "healthy helen" and you thought you would get rewarded by "not having to stand out in the cold to smoke anymore" but really you just have a smoke free home and the whole party moves outside every hour. It was really hard socially. I don't think nicotine kept me any more regular than caffeine but I have a friend who has unsuccessfully tried to quit and she will smoke to be able to poop. I think pot does a better job of that. I really hope that everyone who wants to quit can overcome the BS that comes along with it. <3

untamedshrew -
I quit smoking almost a year and a half ago, after being diagnosed with COPD: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Usually heavy smokers get that diagnosis in their 60s or 70s, but I'm an overachiever and it hit me at 40, probably spurred on by mono. I'd be lying if I said it's easy. I gave myself permission to do whatever I wanted, besides smoke. I started drinking pots of green tea (teavana) everyday. I've put on about 30 pounds. Sadly, my lung function has not really improved and I still get winded after 1 flight of stairs. I still have moments when I'm really stressed and crave a cigarette. Especially when I think about the fact that I'll probably never get to hike the Grand Canyon or Appalachian Trail. That's not all the lungs' fault, I have a knee giving out now, too. Here's your quitting motivation: don't become me.

I teach pole dance to the performers of the Wicked national tour and am looking for a place to continue there training while the show is in town. I am passionate about growing this group's potential and would hate for them to not pole while on Columbus. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thnx!

Casey Kill -
Sooooooo.....I posted yesterday about this competition that Im supposed to be competing in tonight. Well, that will not be happening anymore. I had called Dante's, (the place it was being held) and asked if it was open to everyone and not just studios. It was at the point that I had called. Well this so called friend posted on my facebook wall that is was closed to only studio members, which I am not a member to any of the studios out here. I called Dante's back to see if that was true, and no, it was still open to anyone. Well shortly after, Pole Fitness NorthWest had posted that they were using their poles, and that they were brass, which is where my last post here came from. Not too long after my conversation with so called "friend" PF NW commented back on Dante's status changing their mind all of a sudden out of the blue that it was closed to only studio members.

The reason Im so upset is because I know that this was my "friends" doing is because 1. Shes related to tina, the owner of PF NW.

2. She attends her studio. She was the one that told me of the competition 5 MONTHS AGO.

3. Countless people have warned me of her. I set those aside because I like to base my opinions and judgements on my own.

4. Shortly after she finds out I am actually going to compete, she posts on my wall saying its closed, I call them TWICE and it still is, and all of a sudden the night before the competition, PF NW suddenly changes her mind that its closed off?

This whole thing just really makes my blood boil. The pole dance community is soooooo supportive, no matter if your the competition or a random stranger you've never met. This is the EXACT reason I never want to be affiliated with a studio. The cattyness, theft of routines, the clique's and all out bullcrap is just something that shouldn't be happening when we are all working towards the same things. I worked my ass off to be ready to compete. And the night before it happens, this goes down, Im really quite blown away that these measures have been taken so she wouldnt have to compete against me. I know how that sounds, but if you knew this girl, and have jammed with her, you would know where I'm coming from.

Sorry for the rant. I need some advice.

HotPhlip - I'm with you, sistah!! I'm turning 47 this summer, and I feel even more sexy and confident than I did in my 20s and early 30s. Pole is a big part of my workout and its become more than that- its become my dance partner and its become my mirror to myself. My body is indeed changing and have people coming up to me with such wonderful compliments about my body. Keep it up pole sistah. May our Creator keep you healthy and blessed.

I only went a month and a half and it was a major blow to my self-esteem. I can only imagine how you felt. After a while, mentally I felt better. But physically after week two hit it was bad. I kept waiting for it to plateau and taper down. It just kept getting worse.

As someone stated earlier you learn something with each quitting attempt. My next try I'm going to buy natural supplements for my skin, and digestive health. I'm going to find out the right things to eat, the right way to care for greasy skin. I read somewhere when you quit that your testosterone levels spike and causes acne(??). I have good skin normally and I don't know how to properly care for greasy skin and I guess I am going to have to treat my skin as such for a while... I am also going to try this acupuncture thing people speak of... I hope it reduces some of these side effects...

People say as long as you get over the three day hump you are fine (LIES!!)... I guess everyone is different...

DharmaDancer - I struggled with the smoking/quitting seesaw for way too long, tried everything you all have mentioned. Now I use the Logic brand electronic cigarette, which delivers nicotine via water vapor with zero products of combustion. I haven't touched a cigarette since the day I bought a Logic in January. I did gain eight pounds but I lost them quickly by some easy diet modification. Nicotine is only harmful to use while pregnant. For everyone else, it's a stimulant like caffeine, that can temporarily elevate heart rate and blood pressure. However, I think the Logic has saved my life. My partners on the ambulance all used to be chain smokers like me, and all but one has completely quit cigarettes and only use the Logic. Would it be better to not even use that, and quit nicotine entirely? Perhaps, but I have zero irritability and frankly I really just enjoy using it!

After almost five years of running chat we have decided to remove StudioVeena.Com's chat room. Regardless of the service we used, chat has always been problematic and high maintenance. While it was a very interesting part of our offering it does not ellicit the quality we want as part of StudioVeena.Com's value proposition.

We continue to evaluate solutions that may fit our needs and its possible that you may see this feature again in the future.

Until such time as we have a new solution, I encourage you all to continue your skype gatherings and other methods of gathering online. This is a strong community built on information and support and there are so many ways to receive that here at StudioVeena.Com.

The last time someone said that I said, "no, age doesn't matter" (and I'm still in my 20's) I don't know people say things they don't really understand. Lol, I proceeded to do a backbend in front of the guy who said that to me b/c the xyz in the phrase was a backbend...but anyway...people don't really understand how the body works.I was always the worst kid for flexibilty on those fit tests in elementary school.I didn't do sports, I did some modern dance for maybe a yr. and one round of cheerleading(maybe a sememster around 12) and I've come a long way. I do find that some bodies become stronger faster than others and some become flexy faster than others, but I do believe it's based on genetics mostly. You can be working at it 2x as someone else and they can have it first. Don't feel behind if you are starting out wherever you are. I remember starting at the gym yrs ago w/ 10 weights for everything, including legs! You have to start somewhere:) It will be a nice road though so no worries and enjoy it!xx Good luck, let us know if you have any questions.

pegasusaerialfitness -
Ill post my vid...later today. Pole dancing means to me...well it started as joke at first when I was thinking of expanding my business..so I took a few classes for the fun of it. Some styles I liked, some not so much...but I did like the fact that I was terrible at first. I think it's important to do things that challenge you...and believe me I thought it would be a lot easier than it is. I learn painfully slow. I thought I was to old to start.....I thought lots of things.. In my pole journey I found a group of ladies that have taken me under their wing...the international vertical masters.... They are inspiring and wonderful. They have given me a "place to go" as I get older. I'm 44 now.. It's weird as you get older to define yourself as a women.. Your fertility is dropping, your body changes, but your head doesn't..you still feel young and alive. With pole dancing I can't give up and give in to being "older"... I am proud of my body and what it can do.. I am comfortable in my own skin.. I didn't have that it my 20s.... So I guess with all my denial of the sexy stripper pole version...I'm on the fitness side of the fence... It helps me feels like a powerful, beautiful, graceful, sexy, capable women... Hmmm.. I guess I'm just a "sexy stripper pole" person after all...

pegasusaerialfitness -
Try scrubbing your legs and other non sticky parts with a hot damp towel with a little vinegar..( if you don't use a lot it won't smell at all I promise) then when your legs are air dried use some dew point. I only need it on my legs.. Mary Ellen said Care Ve basic lotion has almost all the same ingredients as Pole Physics...I love, love, love, pole physics. But have very dry skin. Use it the night before. I find I stick best to my chrome after a hot shower.

Some finishes don't work for some people...I won't stick to brass, ss can be fickle for me....but I can usually make it happen..coated poles are great when I'm cold then they rip my skin off as soon as I'm warm.. I have the opportunity to try to TG ( I'm so curious though)... But my 40 chrome is by far my most favorite and easiest pole to work on. Good luck.

@AG..I use dry hands as a grip ad...it works great for me. Maybe because I'm a sweater?

I had this issue with a pole of mine. It was so tight the ceiling would creak and it didn't spin properly. But if you're nervous, try calling X-Pole's customer support like I did, having never set up an X-Pole myself lol. They are very helpful and will help you safely figure out what is wrong.

Tovah -
I think they go hand in hand for pole.

I found for myself that it's a vicious cycle. i.e. I want to do a trick but can't because I need more flexibility and so I stretch to reach my goal. i.e. splits

Now certain tricks require strength and endurance and so, I have to do other forms of fitness to up the muscle strength.

Then this whole thing repeats itself. Of course things get much easier as you get flexier and stronger.

I would like fluidity to the mix...lol

I'm pretty strong and flexible too.I think whatever you work towards, you'll accomplish! I couldn't even touch my toes in '08 and now I have splits all three ways:)

I am still building. Here I had just gone through something really tough and had to gain back my strength in a short period of time but you get the picture through them:) I do stretching about 3-4x per week for atleast 15 min and pole at least 3x a week. When I was new to pole, I only poled 1x a week and gym a few days. Then after a couple months, 2x and then after a few more 3x. Now it's between 3-6x a week:)

Anyway, I was having a conversation with some a couple of my pole sisters and the topic of flexibility vs strength came up. They were talking about how most people are either flexible or have a lot of strength. I am really torn between the two because I thought that there was a happy median between the two. I understand that you have to work on both, but is that really true? You are either really flexible or really strong? I am trying to figure out where I fall in those categories. I guess it would be to early to tell, but I would really like to know where I fall. Please send give me some feedback.

Not much new this time either, and mostly floorwork as usual.

Hope I don't bore you to death with the lenght of the video! Didn't want to cut out too much since I wanted to be able to collect as many moves as possible from this session, so that I can look back at it in the future and hopefully see some progress.

Honestly, watch the x pole set up video on their website and reinstall it. It should be tight enough that you can gorilla shake it without it slipping, and doing a spin without it slipping. Once it is to that point, turn the pole to alight the screws with the flat part of the adjuster rod.

Ajrt2118 -
Ok, so, I know I know, I should know how to tighten and assemble my pole, but my boyfriend is a marine engineer and when he set it up he wouldn't even let me look at the instructions(not did he) or do anything other than hold the pole. Now, because of something beyond our control, he is out to sea and I am here. I was practicing today and I heard my pole creak and it freaked me out. I got the manual and tried to insert the allen(hex) key and tighten the joints, but they must be expanded enough already because they wouldn't budge. I got the tighten/release rod out and started turning clockwise to tighten the pressure on the top plate. But I'm afraid of over tightening. The adjuster still moved when I turned it. How do I know when it's tight enough? Will it stop moving or is that too tight? Please, help, I've got no one here to help me and I only have 6 more weeks with my pole before I leave again. :(

And the longest time I quit - which was 8 months - it never went away!!! I've tried cold turkey and the patch. That's what I'm wondering too - if these other "alternative" methods help alieviate these side effects. Everyone that has quit kept telling me that I would feel so much better after a month or so of quitting, but even after 8 months, I still felt awful! It was like my body was so pissed off at me for quitting and was holding a grudge :-P. I know this might be a controversial thing to say, but I do believe I read that cigarettes do actually help the digestive tract. I obviously know it does way more harm, but it does keep you regular lol!

I tried an epilator a few times. the pain didn't bother me cuz I already wax! but every time i would use the epilator, the hair on my legs would become ingrown when it started growing back. i constantly had to exfoliate my legs. and this was before i ever started pole dancing. since pole dancing and shaving my legs, i still have to exfoliate because i assume all the rubbing against my skin, causes the hair to become ingrown. i used to go to a salon to get waxed, but i do it myself now to save money.

Think that pain is your Rhomboid? Probably not!

Dirty Girl POLEtice -
Ok, I am flabergasted!!!

I have been having increasing pain for 2 days now over my rhomboid on my right side. Woke up today and even though the pain is on the right, I couldn't turn my head to the left with pain around the rhomboid area (spine to shoulder blade), couldn't look down without pain, was getting even harder to breath deep.

So doing some searching because my normal stretches weren't helping, I found a video proclaiming "quit blaming the rhomboids"

I watched it, did what she said, 2 minutes later, pain is gone! There is some residual tenderness still, but I can move my neck now.

It's your RIB! NOT your Rhomboid!!!

I think this is especially important for us pole'rs. Since we do things unilaterally at one time and many if not most of us only invert on one side, this happens a lot! I can't tell you how many of my students this has happened too. I've had to send many to the chiro to get readjusted. So I don't know why I thought it was my rhomboid and not my rib.

I can't tell you how much better I feel!

Watch and learn!!! YEA!

Quitting Smoking Finally!

tammylovesyou -
I've been smoking a pack a day since I was 16. When I first got my pole I read somewhere that smoking really hurts your flexibility and strength. So I quit for a month a half. That's the best I ever did in my life and I have made many attempts. About three weeks ago I started again because people happened. I noticed my flexibility progress wasn't steadily increasing anymore and actually seems to be regressing. And of course my breathing isn't as easy. I really want to quit. I am definitely going to try acupuncture once my funds get stable again.

I have one question when you guys quit did you have any strange side effects... I was fine the first week (other than wanting to kill everyone, and very tired) but once week two hit my face broke out like it never had in my life. My face was a greasy oily mess. I was also bloated like crazy I looked pregnant. I know this is TMI but I really need other people's opinion if they went though things too. I was constipated it seemed to screw up my whole digestive system. I ate fiber and took natural supplements even took laxatives when that didn't work and even that did nothing I thought I was going to have to go the doctor (No health insurance right now so that's a problem.) I was getting ill because of this. When I started smoking again all the acne, bloating, and constipation went away. What the heck. (I can't believe I am posting this on a public forum Smh)

Please someone tell me I am not a freak of nature and they dealt with strange side effects too. I am going to make another quitting attempt soon cuz I just feel better without it.

Does acupuncture lesson these side affects?

Also how do you deal with living with smokers when you are trying to quit?

I did what Phoenix Kazree said she did, and got a feel for it on the ground first. Then I was able to get into it from Superman. I found that i really had to push into the pole with my foot a lot more than i originally thought and arch my back up less than i originally thought. What I found that I was doing wrong before was arching my back too much, so I ended up being parallel with the pole, and that's why I was slipping.

I have a friend who recently purchased a SSA with easy connect joints, she said its brilliant. I'm going to go and give it a try this week. I will let you know how I get on and which one I'm going to go for.

Stage Poles

FitChix1 -
It's not so much that one stage is "better" than another. Each has it's own benefits and flaws, it just depends on what factors are most important to you.

For me, I choose the SSA because it is really easy to break down and set up (I can do mine in under 2 min now). However, it is definitely still big and bulky to haul around, at least it's in pieces. I also like that it is low to the ground (like 4 inches high), making it easy to do floorwork. I always have to put some sort of yoga mat down on hardwood / uneven floors, and it does affect the spin mode a bit, and make it slower.

I do not like that my SSA pole can come unspun (on static mode, with version 3.0 -NOT the EZ connect). But then again, I use it mostly on spin, and I use it for parties / events where easy portability is my main concern.

The X-pole's big benefit to me is the locking pole with hex keys, you know that pole isn't going to come apart, (but then again, I have not tried PS EZ-connect to compare). Last time I saw an X-stage get put together, it took about 20 min. While it does have legs pop out past the round stage area, they choose to only use 1/2 of them, and weighted under the base down with sandbags for added stability. They were concerned someone would get hurt during the competition on the extra legs. The spin mode on it was great, and really fast and smooth.

So the big question is, what's most important to you? And I agree with Chem's statement, there are lots of reasons to choose one versus another. The great thing is that there is no wrong answer. =)

*Pole love*

I went to a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and after 2 sessions I literally could not put a cigarette in my mouth without feeling sick. I am definitely a skeptic, but I had tried smoking cessation classes, prescription meds (wellbutrin), tobacco inhaler, nicotine patches, nicotine gum, snapping a rubber band on my wrist when I had urges, etc! It's definitely the best $75 I ever spent to quit smoking forever!

crystal29 -
I have a hard time with that too! I am a full time student and every term they flood us with more. I constantly just dont have time and then by the time I do it feels like I have to start over! So I feel your pain! But I find watching other pole videos motivates me and going to a pole studio. Because one your paying for it so you dont want to not go, and 2 you get to meet other ppl who motivate you to work harder. Right now I go two days a week and I just started doing that... before it was one day a week.... but my membership allows two days... poling at home I find really difficult to get motivation, but when i get to the more harder levels I will have things I will want to practice at home just so by the time I go into class next I hopefully can get it down pat! anyways :) yup thats how I feel, I find the first little while.... you dont want too but u force urself to goo and then it just becomes an addiction lmfao I love it ... I dont pole as much as I want too and i am definitely not flexible... but everything takes time right? I figure when i am not a student.. I will have lots more time :)

Back hook to sm is my fav, but I did it last night spinning forward. Do you move the right hand to the lower before lifting? Also for this version i like Veena grip. My vid from 3/6/13 shows me doing it. I will do it tonight too and make sure you can see me move my hands. I slow down a little but not nearly stopping and yes the spin gets faster once your legs are up.

I got tons of messages from my April Showcase and it was all "out of the blue". People writing telling me that I was their inspiration and that I was stronger than I believed. They were my "crutch".It was really beautiful to see the pole community and those looking in reaching out to me. I'm no Felix, but I sure felt just as strong by the way they were "lifting" me.I decided to do it for them and b/c it is an honor to be on the stage. It was such an emotional weekend. I wasn't even sure by that Thursday before it if I would continue to do both performances. My husband helped sew me a costume for my Championship division. You can now buy the performance plus all of the APC level 4 which went up right after me on mfeo.tv. for .99 cents.

My choreography wasn't as up to par as it could have been under different circumstances and I would have held a couple of moves second or two longer, but I am proud that I made it through. I loved meeting everyone and supporting them. It was an amazing weekend.

B/c not many may respond to this thread w/ APC performances, please also post West coast division, Central and Southern:)

I was also drawn into her videos when I first started pole dancing and that was how I learned about StudioVeena. I think it may be a good idea for us to welcome her back and tell her how much we love seeing her again. She is truly an inspiration.

I tried patches, gum, replacement bubblegum cigarettes, everything. In the end I just got tired enough of it all, which made me angry, which made me determined, and I quit and have never looked back (It helped that they raised prices on cigarettes in my state the week after I quit). The money I save is amazing. I did gain some initial weight right after, and yes it put me into sweatpants/teeshirts mode for a minute, but I lost whatever I gained about a month or 6 weeks or so after I quit. It just took a bit for my body to adjust. Good luck to everyone working on this, and congrats to those who have kicked the habit.

I read that they used a Chinese climb. Also, I read that Today Entertainment review posted earlier and the critical writer made her own mistake. She quoted the judge as saying, "Futuristic with a touch of the erotic." I thought he said "exotic," so I watched the video again to confirm this, and yes, he did not say erotic. I really think I need to do hypnosis or acupuncture or something. It's like I need to have my brain reprogrammed in order to kick it once and for all. My main issue is I seriously gain about 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks of quitting. I have a small frame so it's crushing when after 10 pounds, I can no longer fit in my clothes :-(. Then within a few months, I start smoking again and lose the weight. This happens even though I continue to eat clean and work out. That's why I think I need hypnosis or something.

Ly Kieu Le - I usually didn't jump right in learning tricks even though I wanted to try them so badly, but I watched a couple of pole performance videos first and closed my eyes imagining how beautifully and happily I was performing in front of a lot of people shouting in excitement. Then I turned on the music real loud and did some sexy dance to warm up, then stretch a little bit before the practice. Every time people asked me how long I poled, I just didn't know how to answer them. It varies all the time depending on how my body feels on that day, sometimes one hour, two hours, four hours, or just 30 mins. The most importance is that I always stopped poling before I got bored of it so that I would have stronger motivation to come back next time. Stretching isn't fun for me either, but the only that carries me through it is the thought of being able to do splits on the pole :D

Runemist34 -
Hehe, I know you don't work out EVERY day, Veena! Just a little exaggeration.

I suppose the trick is that... I want to be able to do that awesome stuff because I think it's awesome, and beautiful! I'm not really a competition sort, though that would be a fairly interesting thing to watch.

I've done it for this long because it's fun, and because I really like doing it. I love the feeling workouts give me, and the challenge of doing new moves or trying new things, and seeing what I'm capable of.

I suppose you're right, though! I am quite hard on myself. I've always been so! I might take a step back and see what I really want to get out of pole, and see what it is that keeps me from making proper habits. I have a difficult time with... well, time, so making a daily habit can be a little bit more of a challenge. When three hours feels like three days, and then five hours can feel like five minutes... sometimes those "habits" become weird :P

For anyone wondering more about Divine Movement (Seattle location), I took a private session when I came up here for a job interview. I explained my experience beforehand. When I got my job offer and moved here, I went straight into the advanced inversions classes. My private instructor explained to the owner that I had demonstrated the required skills to be at that level. I love my instructor (who is also my Pilates teacher), however, I do agree that they're timeliness (or lack thereof) in replying to emails needs much improvement.

byrdgrrl -
In my experience, working out really just becomes a habit. I do it because that's what I do in the afternoons. I'm not saying that I don't do it to stay strong and flexible and get better at moves and that I no longer feel good after working out (quite the opposite), it's just that I don't have to consciously think about why I work out any more. I'm also totally guilty of sometimes waking up in the morning just totally not feeling like working out or I get sucked into reading a book or teh internetz or something during the day. I try to not beat myself for being lazy, and just carry on the next day (or the day after, or the day after). I usually find that having a break is usually helpful, as it helps me refocus and gives my body a break. Sometimes though, I do need a boost to get back in to it. I do things like watch YouTube videos, either new ones or some favorites, or I'll listen to songs that I just like to dance to, or that I'd like to choreograph to in order to summon the mojo.

It seem like it really depends on what you want out of the experience. If you are really struggling to get in a work out every day, maybe you should reevaluate if you should be working out everyday. Try working out every other day, or maybe every couple of days. Try shorter workouts each day, or less days but longer workouts on those days. Really consider why you are doing this too. Are you doing it because it's fun? Because you're training for a competition? If you really need something out side your own self to be motivated, maybe find a friend who can give you that outside push to keep at it. Don't forget, maybe your motivation is just cyclical. Make the most of the time when you have it, back off a bit when you don't, then carry on when you do.

I don't think the majority of pole dancers do. Unless, Pole is your profession! It's completely normal and acceptable to pole when you feel like it. That's part of the reason for the 30 day take off. To assist polers back into poling again, it doesn't even have to be used for the full 30 days. It's just a starting point. I'm always "starting over" and I know soooooo many others are the same. We have school, kids, work so many other things in our life. So you have to put things into perspective for yourself.... do you want to be a pro? If so then you need to commit to day after day of practice and maintain a diet that supports all of the training needed. Or do you just like to pole dance? If so, then you need to remember that advance pole work may not be obtainable and there's NOTHING wrong with that. Enjoy using the moves you know, it's a challenge in it's self to learn to be ok with where you are in your pole journey.

She's looking for someplace that emphasizes the fitness aspect of pole and has little to no emphasis on the dance/sensual side. She's a gymnast who is also currently taking parkour classes, so someplace that would allow her to progress at her own speed would be good (she'll probably cover the basics quite quickly).

Any thoughts or reccomendations would be appreciated!!
