Superwoman

The superman is a popular pole move. It's in the Advanced section but as long as you have a solid Gemini and Thigh Rest you can work on this move even if your still an Intermediate dancer.

Strengthens: Adductors, Glutes, Erector Spinae, Latissimus

StudioVeena - Unfortunately I can't fit this much content on a DVD, you would have to buy set upon set! If you have a smart phone or ipad device you can watch the lessons on that as well. You can even get an adapter that will allow you to hook up these devices to your TV. :)

ennifer2277 - I'm disappointed I didn't see this earlier!!! Back in September I was taught how to do this from side V, but I need a floor way to do it, since the way I do a side V isn't on my dominant side, and I don't trust my hand to hold me unless I try it. Very awesome tutorial and now I'm not afraid to try!

luvlee - Hey Veena! Any idea why when I do this move the arm I have on the pole, on top of my forearm below the thumb always gets tingly and starts to swell??? : O It does it every time. I ice it and it goes down, but it looks bad when it happens.
on May 24, 2011 -
StudioVeena - Hmmm that is odd, Luvlee! Have you tried working on it using the other arm instead?
on May 24, 2011 -
StudioVeena - you could also try switching the hand grip....thumb down instead.
on May 24, 2011 -
luvlee - I will see how my hand placement is. I have never done it on my opposite side. I will try it though. It is so wierd and freaks me out.

Joalex - OMG I just cannot do this! I've been trying for months and I felt like I was almost there but now I seem to be going backwards. I've been trying to do it from Side V, but I find that the back of my top thigh gets stuck to the pole, making it hard to get my legs into the superman position. I also find it very hard to turn my hips towards the floor, and the few times I have managed it, either my hands get really slippy, or I start spinning. There just seem to be so many pitfalls and much to think about. Gaahhhh!! :(
After an unsuccessful night practising this move, I walk into the living room, and guess what movie my husband is watching?? Frickin Superman!!!

StudioVeena - lol @ watching Superman...like its taunting you!!! Do you have video of you try it? Sometimes its something simple your missing, sometimes its just a matter of practice. This one can take a long time for some. If your going from a side V be sure your staying bent at the waist...think knees to nose. This can help you find a better position to flip the hips. Try wearing rubber dish washing gloves if your hands are slippery. :)

Joalex - Thanks Veena, I'll make a video next time I try. I'm too exhausted now!

ahlemh20014818 - I have such a hard time to flip my hips.I go from the side V, but then am stuck and if I try to flip, I just fall
on Mar 20, 2012 -
StudioVeena - Are you bringing your nose towards your knees first? Really bending makin the space between the knees body and legs smaller
on Mar 20, 2012 -
StudioVeena - Before you flip....read above post :)
on Mar 20, 2012 -
ahlemh20014818 - yes!I'll give another go that way!!thanks veena!
on Mar 20, 2012 -
StudioVeena - OK :)

SaschaPoles - V!! Can you show us how to do the Superman Drop?
on Apr 27, 2012 -
goldendiva - I've been working on this move for over a month now both in class and at home and I always get stuck trying to flip over cause the pressure on my thighs hurts so bad. Any suggestions?
on Jul 18, 2012 -
StudioVeena - Have you tried getting into it from the pike?
on Jul 18, 2012 -
goldendiva - Thanks, I'll try that next time I try it. I think I'll wait til my pole burns and bruises heal first though.
on Jul 18, 2012 -
goldendiva - Veena, I finally got the superman from a pike like you suggested! It still burned my thighs like crazy, but maybe I'll just have to learn to live with it...

ATXpolerina - When I manage to get into Superman it is always with my holding hand's thumb down. I am unable to get my arm far enough behind me to hold the pole when i keep my thumb up. What stretches or techniques can I do in order to hold Superman with my thumb up?
on Sep 24, 2012 -
StudioVeena - As long as you don't feel any pressure or Strain holding with thumb down, it's fine to use that :) working on the stretches for the hands in the lessons will be helpful.

Cantetinza17 - mine instructor wante dus todo this from a walk around and then you jst kind of swing your leg into it and let me just say my feet and knees kept hitting the floor. It was funny but frustrating!
on Nov 27, 2012 -
StudioVeena - You mean the superman spin? this? http://www.studioveena.com/lessons/...
on Nov 27, 2012 -
Cantetinza17 - Yeah I saw that vieo and I was like that's it! Except the pole wasn't spinning it was static, so I had to walk into it and then use my swining leg for momentum, but my feet and knees kept dragging on the ground.

RubyTuesday - Ugh, I have the same problem, my things sticks from V :( It's like I can't wedge my flabby thight past the pole to flip round! Lol. I will try with this lesson though, your breakdown really helped me think it through so hopefully I'll get this soon! XxxxX
on Feb 26, 2013 -
RubyTuesday - Haha! Autocorrect, that should say my 'thigh' sticks! My things are ok :s Eating and using smartphone at same time! eeeep! xxxxx
on Feb 26, 2013 -
StudioVeena - LOL, If you are comfortable with your pike hip hold you can try it from that position instead of side v.
