Things to Know BEFORE you install your Pole.

StudioVeena - [color=#400080:1b2tixrb][b:1b2tixrb]X-pole maintenance

- The first time you assemble your X-pole be sure to clean off all the polish off the pole pieces.

- Take your X-pole down once a week, undone and reassembled; this will stop it from getting stuck and also retighten any looseness. (At minimum once a month)

- Once a month you should get some soapy water and clean the screw threads that join the pole sections together (NOT THE AJUSTER BIG SCREW) then apply some WD40 to the threads wiping the excess with a cloth.

- Use of chalk or any grip enhancer will make the joins stick more so make sure you keep your pole clean and dry.

- Don’t over tighten the pole

- Make sure you turn it the correct way to undo or you are just tightening it

- keep your cardboard tubes you will need them to pack your X-pole back into the travel case.

Releasing the poles tubes if they are stuck.

X-Pole is supplied with release rods. With the base in 'static' mode insert the rod and turn anticlockwise. If tubes joints still will not release place the tubes on a flat surface, insert the rods and with one rod against the surface give the other rod sharp tap. It is not force that releases the tubes it is the shock. If the tube still will not release place something solid under the release rod so it is parallel to the surface the poles are on and try again. This so that the shock goes into the solid object and is not absorbed by the rod itself.

How do I locate joists (ceiling studs)?

Joists can be located by either tapping across the ceiling with a knuckle or with an electronic stud finder. With a knuckle you tap across until a more solid sound is heard - this is a joist or beam. A hollow sound is the space between the joists. A stud finder will locate the joist electronically (note-stud finders don’t work on plaster)

What ceilings surfaces can I use it on?

X-Pole can be used against almost any LEVEL ceiling surface. It's silicone edging has hi-grip capabilities. Rough surfaces, such as aertex, may present a problem depending on how rough they are. It is not a case of not being stable enough it as to whether the ceiling will be damaged if uneven pressure is placed on it. X-Pole can not be used on false or suspended ceilings.

Jovus22 - In the South (USA) everyone knows what WD-40 is. It's our fix-all.

"That hinge squeaky?" WD-40.
"Brakes squealing?" WD-40.
"Face broke out?" Wd-40.

Ok, kidding about the face, but I'm sure some Southerner has considered it.

spirit - I have an x-pole, and the large screw at the top seems stuck... Here's the story: Me and my boyfriend are moving, so we took down the pole last night. Whenever I was turning the big screw at the top (clockwise to loosen), it came down from the ceiling, but now it seems tightened "into" the pole (as in, it doesn't screw of unscrew freely.)
I'm worried because I don't know if it will unscrew when we put it up again.
Does anyone know what's up? I thought it had to do with the large nut on the seem, but I don't know (I didn't loosen the nut though, so It could be.)
HELP!! if you know how to fix this problem.

balletgurlie - Which type of WD40 is best? I went to the store today and they had a 3 oz bottle of household lubricant but they also had a spray bottle of it as well as a pen. Seeing as I'm retarded when it comes to hardware stuff I thought it would a good idea to ask what you use?
on May 9, 2009 from Canyon, Texas -
Foxy_Rei - Hmmm it would probably depend on your preference. The can I have has both a spray (like a mist) and a straw-type thing that jets it out. I found I like the spray better, easier to control. Keep in mind you're applying this to the threads on the joints to the pole, so it needs to get in between the threads so wiping it on may not be as effective (at least this didn't work for me, anyway). A more direct spray, like the straw-thing, just seems to make more of a mess because it's more concentrated and it drips everywhere. The mist-like spray still makes a mess but more of it gets where you want it and less drip. Does that make sense? Either way you're going to end up cleaning the whole pole with soap and water when you're done

When you say "pen" is it like a straw thing like I'm describing or like a thing you "write" the WD-40 onto the object with??? Just wondering...
on May 9, 2009 from , -
balletgurlie - It's kind of like one of those tide to go pens or a bleach pen. So yeah I guess it's like something you would write with.
on May 9, 2009 from Canyon, Texas -
Foxy_Rei - Hmmm that sounds like it would be less messy, but like I said, it has to get in between the threads on the joints. So if enough came out that it would kinda drip down between the threads as you "wrote" with it, I think that would be great!

And depending on how much this stuff costs, maybe try getting both kinds??? WD-40 has several uses around the house so you could find a use for the one you found you don't like. It's the best fix for a squeaky door, sliding doors that stick, etc. :D
on May 10, 2009 from , -
Meleania - Is it bad to leave the grease on the joints? If so then why are is the grease on the pole in the first place?
on Jun 10, 2009 from Spanaway, Washington -
doroty - Hi,
I come to ask from you advice because I do not manage to find of answers on the French forum.
I changed my pole, I bought a gold in 45 mm.
The problem, when I assembled it, everything was indeed without when I put it in spinning mode, my husband said to me that it was twisted.
Indeed, the pole is spray-painted, it is not straight(right), it looks like there is one of the fragments twisted.
I defused it, I looked every at fragments. I looked again at the DVD with kt coates but I did not make a mistake in the assembly.
Can he have manufacturing defects there?
I clarify, I installed it in the same place as my former chrome-plates, it is really the pole which makes an arc. :?
Have you met this problem ?
thanks
on Jul 12, 2009 from Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne -
Foxy_Rei - (I hope I'm understanding you correctly, but I'll try )

Is it an X-Pole??? I don't think X-Pole spray-paints their poles... Are you just referring to the titanium plating??

If the pole bent or twisted when you used it in spin mode, then I'd say it's a manufacturing problem - especially if it was fine and wasn't moving when you used it in static mode. I'd contact customer service and tell them what happened and see what they say. If it's an x-pole, their customer service is great. :thumleft:

Good luck, maybe someone else here will have a better idea for you.

Mjohnson0911 - I had a lot of trouble finding a joist on my popcorn ceiling. So my dad's suggestion is a maganet. Go to your local automotive store and ask for a Retrieval Maganet. It should look kind of like a pen but in pulls out like an anntenna with the maganet on the end. It needs to be kinda stong...refridgerator maganets won't work. You just sweep this across your ceiling and it will stick to a nail or screw to show you were the joist is. The one I bought was like 7 bucks. Good Luck!

my x-pole manual says keep away from humidity & wetness..

on Oct 26, 2009 from , -
Mjohnson0911 - Its very important to find the joist in the ceiling so that your Xpole will be stable. That is why you need a studfinder. When installing your Xpole it will tell you the samething so that your pole is secure and safe!

No one in the xpole instruction guide does it even mention those things about wd-40 or keeeping they pole cans! :o i totally threw them away!!!! i was wondering if by any chance i could buy ony the cans for the pole parts. I was wondering why it moves so much in the carrying case  ah darn....

shayshay21489 - So since you don't have to use wd-40 do u have to still clean the grease off. And are the pole cans a big deal? Maybe I can call tech support and they will send me some?
on Dec 11, 2009 from Jacksonville, Florida -
rabidshrooms - I was going to say, I am a newb so take my advice with that in mind but xpole specifically told me not to use WD40 anywhere on the xpole but to use like car grease (like axel grease I think?!). They said you should use jelly based substances if you have to use them at all.

pink_zombie - So, I still have major troubles undoing every last piece, mostly the middle two big poles that connected in the middle. I have a chrome 50mm xpole, and even if i put it up for one day and not tighten it lots, i cannot get the pieces apart. I can remove only the top dome piece from the rest, but the bottom, and the three poles in between stay stuck... I have tried stuff that is meant for a pole so it wont seize up, and other greases and anti-lock stuff from my partner who is a machinist.

I actually have to get my partner to take the pole to work and get them to put it into a rotating machine and shove the rods into the holes to loosen it. I have had muscular men of all sizes try to pry it apart, and no luck lol.. I even Had to move from Vancouver with it all in tacked except for the dom..LOL

I really want to know if maybe its a defect or there is something else i can use on the threads, because i want a portable pole lol... I have had it for 4 years now and most of the time i can keep it up where it is, but i want to be able to take it places and it is posing great difficulty... and another girl bought the brass xpole and hers comes down like a dream.
on Mar 29, 2010 from Winnipeg, Manitoba -
StudioVeena - Hmmm, that's interesting....come to think of it Pink... I have a Titanium Gold X pole and with that pole I have never had trouble with stuck tubes...but, all of my chrome x poles have been difficult to get apart at one point or another. The only way I can keep them from getting stuck its to make sure I hand tighten the pieces when I set up the pole. Then for maintenance I loosen them then re-tighten once a week while the pole is still up. It seems to help prevent them from getting stuck. :D
on Mar 29, 2010 from Woodbury, Minnesota -
pink_zombie - Well i will forsure try that, but ya i find that odd why that would do that to my chrome, but not my friends brass.. jeezz lol..

Well i am going to get my partner to take it apart, i also never use to take it apart to clean etc, so that could be another reason.

Here's my quandry:  I have a lil' minx pole in my basement studio now... I WANT an x-pole as my second in order to have a static pole that has a spinning option.  The basement has beams that I have my pole in right now and it is secure.  But with the x-pole would I have to secure a flat board plank of some sort to the beams in order for the dome to secure properly? I noticed on xpole's site there is a "block" mount for 39.99.  Would purchasing this allow me to secure that to a beam in order to have my x-pole in my studio?

Any info would be great!

Thanks!

Veena, so you loosen and tighten the screws on all your xjoints with the pole UP and in place once a week?  That is an interesting idea!  I would have been worried to try it, but if YOU are doing it!!!!  :-)    I'm guessing you just do one xjoint at a time and do the alternating back and forth between the screws thing?

I've just been tightening them about once a week.  I guess it was too much tightening because last time I tried to take it down, one of the screws was stuck and then the hole to put the hex wrench in became rounded out from all the trying to loosen it.  Never got it to loosen at all, so I just put it back together and I'm using it that way.  But I wonder if your method would keep that from happening again.   Eventually I'll have to replace that piece of the pole and xjoint I suppose.

@ Pythia...I don't have the new style poles with the xjoint. I was talking about the old style poles. wink

Greekgoddess - Hey I live in the uk and have an x pole xpert spin/static 55mm chrome pole, problem is I'm moving and my new place has a massive ceiling so I need a block mount to attach it to one of the lower beams because the dome won't fit because it's too wide and I don't want to use more than 2 extensions to fit it on the highest part of the ceiling.
The main issue being the pole website doesn't have block mounts I've looked in ceiling fixings and it keeps redirecting back to the home page, does anyone know any uk sites I can order a block mount from? I'm desperate I've got a comp coming up and need to sort out my routine :(

Hi, thanks for the tips! I had my friend install it, which was fine but I moved it to a different place. After i moved it, when it is on spinning mode, it squeaks! I tried to untighten it, but it is still squeaky. If I untighten it more, the dome will be loose. Any advice? Thanks :)
